We need power but not here

Recently I read a letter from someone criticizing those who are opposing the proposed power plant in South Fulton County. This person stated that their mother lived in California and was now paying $400 a month for power.

First, I would like to say that none of us is opposing a power plant. We all know that we need power. Also, this is not just a case of "not in my backyard." This is a different kind of backyard.

I live in Christian City and the residents aren't your healthy 20-to-40-year-olds. These are old sick people and sick children the ones who are most vulnerable to the effects of this type plant. Some of these people are attached to oxygen tanks. They certainly don't need this.

I am not an expert on the issues but I believe the experts who have spoken out about it health experts and Realtors. I prefer to believe them over a company that has continuously lied to us about the facts.

Also, I would like to point out that when California was in such need, this company refused to sell to them, choosing to sell to the highest bidder. It was only after they were heavily fined that they finally sold to California. They probably wouldn't sell to us either but would export this power to the highest bidders in the country. Perhaps the reason this person's mother is paying so much for power is because she is now getting it from Williams.

We're not against power plants but this is not the place for it.
