Youngest candidate 'represents PTC's future' As proven by Alexander the Great when he conquered the world as he knew it before the age of 30, age does not have to be a hindrance. In fact, a fresh and unjaded point of view may be just what local government needs right now. This is an important time for Peachtree City a time when we need someone with brand-new ideas, a different perspective, and an open mind. I believe I can provide just that. My name is Alison Chambers, and I am proud to be running for City Council in Peachtree City. I am 24 years old not old enough to know everything, not old enough to have formed alliances or personal agendas, and not old enough to have any special interests. In fact, Peachtree City is my special interest. As a seventh generation Fayette Countian, I come from a long line of residents who have given their time to public service. My grandfather, Crawford Hewell, Jr., served as mayor of Fayetteville and on the Fayette County Commission, as well as being the first president of the Chamber of Commerce. One great-grandfather, William Ballard, served as county sheriff; the other, Crawford Hewell, Sr., was the town banker. Public service is, in many ways, a family tradition, and I am eager to give back to a community that, in a very real sense, raised me. I have a keen desire to carry on the tradition of public service, doing what I can to see that Peachtree City remains the home we sought when we came. I appreciate more than most the effort and dedication that went into making Peachtree City and Fayette County what they are today, and I would be honored to serve on the City Council and thus continue this family legacy while forging my own path by serving in Peachtree City, something Car Car, my granddaddy, never did. I bought my first home here in Peachtree City last January. Like you, I am concerned with keeping crime rates low, keeping property values high, and keeping traffic moving. I would also like to see council meetings televised or available on webcam, so citizens can keep abreast of what is going on in their local government. Even while working my campaign, I am proposing a new, large project, "Take Ownership in Peachtree City Day," a local version of "Hands On Atlanta." It would be a chance for Peachtree City residents, organizations, and businesses who share common interests to come together to complete common goals, while at the same time saving taxpayers money. As a younger citizen in this community, I am very interested in finding ways to get our youth more involved. I feel that they are our biggest untapped resource. Citizens my age, while often not possessing great monetary assets, do have other assets (such as energy and dedication) that could and should be tapped by local organizations. I'd like to explore and encourage possible avenues for involvement because they we represent our future, and I want our future to have deep, healthy roots in our past. I want input from everyone the citizens, the officials, the business owners, and our youth. I appreciate people taking the time to share their ideas, suggestions, and concerns with me. Even though I started my website, www.AlisonChambers.com, as part of my campaign, I plan to maintain it during my term of office to make it easier to exchange ideas and information. The only way I will know what's important to you, the residents of Peachtree City, is to hear your concerns, your thoughts, your questions. I readily admit that I don't know everything and realize that the best way to learn, not just the problems and concerns but investigate possible solutions, is to listen. And to listen, I have to be accessible. Please feel free to call me at home or e-mail me as often as you like. I appreciate your input and like to hear all "sides of the story" before I make a decision. I can't defend decisions I did not help make. I can, however, promise that when I am in a position to cast votes and make decisions, I will accept responsibility for the votes I cast. No vote will be cast before I have input from citizens, from officials and professionals who might have been involved, and, when possible or applicable, from other people who might have previously been down the same road. I don't know all of the answers. I don't even know all of the questions. But I will make you these promises: I WILL thoroughly research anything that comes across my desk before making a decision; I WILL make myself readily available to you by phone and e-mail; I WILL do what is best for Peachtree City, regardless of what is best for Alison Chambers; and I WILL NOT let you down. Please make an investment in the future of Peachtree City on Nov. 6 by voting for me. Alison Chambers Candidate for City Council Post 4 alison@alisonchambers.com
