Andre Allen, a student at Flat Rock Middle School, is the Fayette County winner in the fourth annual water conservation and preservation essay contest, sponsored by the Clean Water Campaign and the Water Use It Wisely Campaign. Allen, a sixth-grader, received a $25 cash prize. Allen was presented with an award Dec. 12 by Tyrone Mayor Sheryl Lee.

Help sought for family devastated by fire

Christmas will be a bit tougher this year for a Peachtree City family whose home burned down Monday afternoon.

The family, which includes three children — boys ages 11 and 12 and a girl age 10 — has had plenty of clothing assistance. They temporarily stayed in a hotel after the fire, but will need some items for their new home when they can move in, officials said.

Traffic relief may be coming to Ashland Trail

Shoppers in Tyrone will have a new place to shop for basic consumable merchandise at everyday low prices when Dollar General opens its new store at 989 Senoia Road. The grand opening is scheduled to begin today at 9 a.m., and continue through tomorrow. The new 7,406-square-foot store employs approximately six to 10 people.
