Christmas will be a bit tougher this year for a Peachtree City family whose home burned down Monday afternoon.

The family, which includes three children — boys ages 11 and 12 and a girl age 10 — has had plenty of clothing assistance. They temporarily stayed in a hotel after the fire, but will need some items for their new home when they can move in, officials said.

Items such as comforters, bath sheets and the like are particularly needed, said an organizer who’s helping coordinate donations for the family. Donations can be dropped off at the Leach Fire Station on Paschal Road near Ga. Highway 74 north.

The oldest boy was particularly upset about losing his Xbox video game system, and volunteers have tried in vain to find one for him. Neighbors have also pitched in with support for the family, which was renting the house.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but arson has been ruled out, fire officials said. The blaze also damaged two vehicles that were parked in the carport, and it melted the siding of the house next door.

The fire may have spread quickly because of the age of the house, fire officials said.
