Tyrone’s 2001 sewer deal with Fairburn is coming under intense scrutiny from Tyrone’s residents who are wanting answers to some questions.

In fact, the issue will be discussed Wednesday at a called meeting of the Tyrone Town Council at 6 p.m. in the council’s chambers.

Las month, Hank Sanak presented the Town Council with a list of questions that he wanted answered at the first council meeting of the month.

Since the Nov.3 meeting was cancelled, Town Manager Barry Amos provided the answers to the residents Nov.17.

In response to Sanak’s query about other contractors tapping on to any excess capacity, Amos wrote the deal was quite clear about that issue.

“Wieland/Seay cannot sell or transfer this sewer capacity to any other person or entity, other than the town, nor can Wieland/Seay use it to provide sewer service for any other property other the neighborhood/Southampton commercial,” Amos wrote.

Sanak also wondered what the cost was to the town for sewer rates and Amos made it clear in his letter that the users of the system are responsible for the costs of operating and maintaining the system. The town manager added all additional costs were the responsibility of Fairburn.

Amos also said Tyrone had paid Fairburn $570,000 in accordance with the agreement, but the costs were borne by John Wieland Homes and Phil Seay.
