Ga. DOT suspends road work through holidaysMon, 12/26/2005 - 9:21am
By: The Citizen
In view of anticipated heavy holiday traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation has suspended most scheduled construction projects and all work requiring lane closures until Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 5 a.m. Also, work on the widening of I-75 in south Georgia will not resume until Jan. 4 at 5 a.m., to accommodate motorists returning from football bowl games and other holiday activities in Florida. “The public has been very patient with us all year as we carried out the most aggressive construction program in Department history,” Transportation Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl said. “We thank them and wish all safe journeys to and from their holiday festivities.” While most scheduled construction will be suspended, motorists should be aware that the need for emergency repair work may occur at any time. Georgia DOT encourages the public to access the Department’s NaviGAtor travel services at its Web site (www.georgia-navigator.com) for detailed construction, lane closure and traffic incident information; and also to use the site to establish their own “My NaviGAtor” report for personalized, real-time traffic information. The public may also call the Department’s traffic and construction hotline toll free, 24 hours, seven days a week, at 404-635-6800; or call *DOT on their Verizon or Cingular cellular phones to speak with a TMC operator. login to post comments |
