Things are moving at a far greater pace than officials at Dogwood Church could ever imagine.

The Tyrone Planning Commission signed off on the site plan for the second phase of the former Braelinn Baptist Church’s development on 89 acres, just off Ga. Highway 74.

“They are doing a marvelous job with this site and this phase fits exactly with the master plan that was presented earlier,” said Town Manager Barry Amos.

Amos said the second phase features a 1,000-seat sanctuary, but the church doesn’t plan to stop with that addition to the property. Other phases include a 3,500-seat sanctuary, recreation facilities, including baseball fields and tennis courts and expanded educational buildings.

Currently, the church has completed one building that will ultimately be a gym and educational/Sunday School facilities.
