Tyrone Councilman Lyn Redwood is getting closer to having a one-stop zoning checklist to accompany new rezoning applications.

For months, Redwood has been trying to get a simple form placed in each packet that would outline basic overview procedures for each applications. Redwood is particularly concerned that environmental issues, such as environmental health and watershed issues are looked at carefully by each agency before the report is given to the Town Council.

At a called meeting last Monday, the Planning Commission heard a report from Redwood on the procedure she would like to see established. She said that staff was already doing much of the research and that it wouldn’t take much more time to put a checklist together outlining when each department had evaluated the application.

“I just don’t want to see our staff doing more work. I think the developer should provide the information,” said Planning Commission Chairman Ginger Blackstone.

Redwood believed it would not be that much more work, since staff was already doing much of the research.

Town Manager Barry Amos agreed with Blackstone.

“We need to put the burden on the developer. They ought to be supplying this information,” he said.

The Planning Commission agreed more information was always helpful, and discovered that there were only four environmental issues that were currently not being posted in the information given to the Town Council.

“I just think we’re splitting hairs here and can resolve this,” said Blackstone.

The commission agreed to see if all the information could be provided on a checklist and redwood will deliver a report to the Town Council on the issue Dec. 1.
