Brightly colored blocks, Lincoln Logs and LEGOs -- something about building has fascinated children for generations. And according to a recent report, 23 million kids ages two to 17 -- or almost 40 percent of American children -- currently have Internet access from home. Now, thanks to a new initiative by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Women’s Council, kids across the country can combine home building education and virtual fun with the Homes of Our Own online coloring book.

The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (HBA) is offering a free class to educate and guide first-time home buyers through the process of buying or building a new home. The Academy for New Home Buyers class will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 12, at the HBA Housing Center.

Realtor Glenn Johnson has joined the Prudential Georgia Realty sales team. He is based out of the Fayetteville office at 834 S. Glynn Street.

Parks & Mottola Realtors welcomes Darren and Susan Beckom to its team of real estate professionals. The husband-wife team will work at the company’s main office located in the Calumet Business Park in Newnan. Their niece, Jamie Yearwood, is also an agent at Parks & Mottola.

In November 2005, several custom builders began building in South Arbor Shores in Arbor Springs Plantation, and since then 50 percent of the home sites in this 85-lot phase have been sold, according to Crystal Bashakes, Broker for Arbor Associates Real Estate, Inc.

Patrick Malloy Communities reports record-breaking sales in May 2006. This follows five consecutive months of strong sales, continuing to secure the company’s position as metro Atlanta’s fastest growing homebuilder. During the month ending May 31, Patrick Malloy Communities sold 46 new homes. This represents an increase of 42% from sales during May of 2005. It is also is an increase of 19% over the same five-month period during 2005.

Real estate professionals from The Home Source Realtors enjoyed a program recently on the prevention of real estate and mortgage fraud, as Georgia is among the states most often cited for violations.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle’s annual list of mortgage broker “Top Guns” in Georgia recently revealed Metro Brokers Financial (MBF), mortgage brokerage of Metro Brokers/GMAC Real Estate, as the number one residential mortgage broker in Georgia for the second consecutive year.

The company’s Jonesboro office was recognized as the Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty office with the most Real Estate Owned (REO) closings during 2005, while Marguree Threatt of the Peachtree City office was cited as the agent with the highest priced REO sale during the year.

The Advantage School of Real Estate will conduct the 75-hour course required by the Georgia Real Estate Commission for a person to take the state real estate salesperson’s licensing exam.
