CORRECTED story

Peachtree City police are investigating the death of a University of Georgia student who was found unresponsive early Sunday morning at a residence in the Bradford Estates subdivision.

Emergency crews sent to 314 Bradford Way at 7:20 a.m. determined that the student, identified as Samuel Kennedy, 24, of Vandiver Hall on the UGA campus in Athens had died.

The department is awaiting the autopsy report and also results from toxicology testing as part of the investigation, police said Tuesday morning.

Police officials would not comment on the believed cause of death in the case but promised to release more information at a later date once the investigation is further along.

Kennedy was a 2004 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School, according to school records.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that the home where Kennedy was discovered is owned by Thomas and Gayle Reddy. The home is actually owned by Stanley and Peggy Richards, who are Kennedy's mother and stepfather according to a published obituary for the student.

"CORRECTED STORY" is a mere euphemism for sloppy and reckless journalism.

I know none of these people and do not know the circumstances about this young man's passing. Regrettably, however, the disinformation in this story arguably does little to accurately educate the public.

Good journalism requires a more diligent effort at the outset with more than simply cruising the police station, cutting and pasting and going to county websites for names.

Show me one newspaper, magazine, TV News show or even co-workers or friends who don't have to say "Sorry, I was incorrect in what I said." At least ones who are mature enough to admit a mistake. If you are so perfect that you have to admonish a professional journalist, then where is your perfect, never erring piece of reporting? Build a bridge and get over it.

There is nothing professional about reporting misinformation and not checking facts.

There is everything professional about acknowledging an error and correcting it. I did not know I live in an area where there are so many errorless individuals.

Let's hope that the cause was something other than drugs, but if in fact it was I would check the where abouts of the "PTC Black Widow" AKA Keri McMichen! Things like this have a nasty way of happening around her. Just saying...........
