PTC briefs: bridge, tunnel project updates

Due to rainy and cold weather the completion date has been adjusted for construction of the path connections leading to the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks along Ga. Highway 54.

The deadline, which was supposed to be Feb. 2, has been extended to March 16 though the contractor thinks it can be finished earlier, city officials said this week.

The bridge and the tunnels to which it will connect have been complete for more than three years but they have been unusable because of the delay in getting the path connections.

Part of the most recent delay in the construction project was chalked up to the contractor not being able to shut down some lanes of traffic, officials said. A retaining wall has been built along the path adjacent to Ethan Allen furniture and a portion of the paths have been graded with the base laid down.

Bids solicited for tunnel

Peachtree City is seeking bids for the construction of path connections to the new tunnel under Ga. Highway 74.

Yet the city is still lacking two easements necessary for the project. The bids are expected to be considered by council in early March.

Listen to the presentation by David Rast online about the paths...."contractor has delays due to HOLIDAYS and WEATHER"....

If this project gets finished by APRIL FOOLS DAY, it will be a miracle. This guy is out there with equipment the size the GDOT used on Hwy 74 and never more than 3 manual laborers WHEN they show up. Working in a space the size of a residential driveway.

Can't shut down WHAT lanes of traffic???? In Ethan Allen parking lot???? In the far corner of the Books A Million side pkg. lot near 54???

Give this contractor a PERMANENT holiday and ship him back to bubbaville where he came from. And stop with the rain excuses. And the cold excuses.

The rain excuse is legit. The rain this year is outrageous. How are you supposed to build a tunnel when it won't stop raining for more than two day at a time? You can't pour concrete in that. These contractors aren't staying home on rainy days because they are lazy. The rain is costing them tons of money and many of them are hurting pretty bad because of it. I agree that this tunnel project has been frustrating but its not the construction worker's fault.

Since you don't have a clue about this project, you are better off keeping quiet.

Please enlighten me on why Holiday's and Poor Weather are unreasonable delays for this particular project.

There is no tunnel in this project. The tunnels have been done for 3+ years now.
This bubba bid on this knowing d___ well there are holidays and rain days on EVERY job. A professional makes his projections factoring in weather and holidays. And that you are going to run into other issues as well. PTC NEVER takes a bid that isn't the lowest. They get what they pay for.
Look at the ramp going down to the tunnel next to Best Buy. How long did that take? Oh, can't remember? That's because it was done so fast no one took notice of it. Not as big as this job, but this one isn't to build the Taj Mahal, either.
April Fools Day, it we're lucky.

...A comment with absolutely no spin. Even old Bonker$ would understand.
