ACC cuts ribbon in Peachtree City

Classes are underway and approximately 100 people attended the ribbon cutting Tuesday for Fayette County’s newest college. The first satellite campus of Atlanta Christian College (ACC) is located at 800 Commerce Drive in Peachtree City.

ACC leased the entire second floor of the building in the Westpark Walk area. ACC Communications Director Sarah Huxford after the ribbon cutting Jan. 26 said the college began classes for its adult evening program in October, with the next phase of classes set to begin in February.

“We already have a lot of students from the area,” Huxford said of the Fayette/Coweta region, noting that ACC wants to add satellite campuses in other areas around the metro Atlanta area in the next year.

Huxford said the adult degree completion program in Peachtree City is a part of the associate and bachelor degree programs in Christian Ministry, Organizational Leadership and Counseling and Human Services.

Classes for these programs are offered one night per week and are geared to the needs of working adults and others, Huxford said.
Coming this fall ACC will introduce a joint enrollment program for qualified high school juniors and seniors that will enable them to earn college credits. Approval from the student’s high school is required. Huxton said more information on the joint enrollment program is available on the ACC website.

Peachtree City and Fayette County have long-sought to have ACC present in the community. The college in 2008 announced its intent to relocate its main campus, with Peachtree City and Newnan being two of the top candidates for that move. ACC slowed its pace for the relocation move in late 2008 due to the credit crunch that accompanied the recession.

ACC’s main campus is located in East Point. For more information on ACC call 404-761-8861 or visit www.acc.edu

It is great to see another college here in Peachtree City, and while this effort was long in coming there were many individuals whose efforts should be recognized.

One of which is Mark Hollums who has been behind the effort from the beginning. He was speaking of it over two years ago when I first met him, and has been a driving force abeit behind the scenes. Mark is but one of several, each of which deserve our gratitude.
