A Lithia Springs man was arrested Thursday by Peachtree City police for using a local resident’s stolen credit card 32 times.

Lee Earnest Brown, 57, would use the card for everyday purchases like a meal at McDonald’s and a haircut, said police Lt. Mike Claman. Brown even used one charge to pay off a ticket for an item he had pawned, police said.

The card was stolen from a car that was broken into in the Pinegate subdivision in October, Claman said. There was a delay in reporting the crime because the victim didn’t realize at first that the card had been stolen, he said.

All Brown’s purchases eventually caught up with him, as he was identified as the culprit through video surveillance at stores where he used the card, police said.

Many of the purchases were along Thornton Road in Lithia Springs, and under the law Peachtree City brings the charges because the card was stolen from here, police said.

Claman suggested that residents avoid leaving any valuables inside a car, and to lock all vehicles whether they’re in a garage or a driveway. Residents are also reminded to keep an eye on their financial accounts to detect fraud quickly, police said.
