Assailant didn't show gun; wore lime green Converse sneakers Fayetteville police are trying to identify a man who robbed the Office Depot across from Fayette Pavilion last night after 7:30 p.m. The man threatened to shoot the clerk “if she said anything” as he got away, though he did not display a weapon, police said. A witness was able to provide a detailed description of the assailant’s clothing: a blue hoodie with a red T-shirt underneath, lime green Converse tennis shoes, blue jeans and a cream-colored baseball cap with red writing on it, Gooding said. The suspect was described as a black man between 6’0”-6’4” tall, with crooked teeth, about 190 pounds and between 25 and 30 years old, he said. Detectives are working to determine if the assailant was captured on the store’s security system. When the assailant first entered the store he posed as a customer, picking up an item but asking a clerk to hold it at the counter, police said. About 10 minutes later he returned to the store, wandered some more and has a store associate help him get the Windows software box, police said. The assailant then went to the register as if he was going to purchase the software, handing over a gift card that had no funds remaining on it, police said. At that point the robber reached toward his socks or shoes and threatened that he had a gun, Gooding said. The assailant then made the threat to shoot the clerk if she said anything and left the store. |
