Snow for Fayette Thurs. afternoon

Mon, 01/04/2010 - 2:07pm
By: John Munford

Fayette residents hoping for snow may get their wish starting Thursday afternoon.

The area could get upwards of one inch of the white stuff and perhaps more, according to the latest forecast available early Tuesday afternoon from the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to begin Thursday afternoon, ending around 1 or 2 a.m. Friday morning, according to Sean Ryan, a NWS forecaster in Peachtree City.

Following the storm, temperatures Friday are expected to reach the upper 30s, but Saturday will turn frigid with the high staying in the 20s, Ryan said.

“That would be the coldest day we’ve seen in quite a while,” Ryan said.

Meanwhile, meteorologists are keeping their eye on a low pressure system off the gulf coast. If that system takes a northern track, it could increase the amount of snow metro Atlanta will get, Ryan said.

Metro Atlanta is predicted to get as much as two inches of snow due to the storm system. Icy roads have already played havoc on Atlanta commuters this week, and Thursday’s storm is expected to also cause trouble for motorists.

Chunked up a big piece of chuck today and Frau Gym put that and other ingredients (diced tomatos, chicken broth, jalapenos & poblanos, chili powder in a Dutch Oven. Will emerge tonight to be dumped over some rice & washed down with some sort of adult beverage. Perhaps the single good thing about the cold wx.

That sounds like one mean brew of chili. I have to make mine mild as the boss can't tolerate the melt-the-spoon variety. But every so often......... Evil

Of course, we all know that chili came from Texas. Cincinnati, New Orleans, Louisville, White (turkey), and Chili Verde styles are all lesser forms of chili. Smiling

Well it wasn't truly a 5-Alarm one, but surely at least a 3.5! And the rice was good especially with some shredded cheese scattered over it before I ladeled the chili on top!. Washed down with some Yuengling. Never heard of Steve's Golden Monkey beer before.

No, Al is taking a cruise ship through the new Northwest Passage recently created by the ice all melting. The passage is now open year round for the first time in history.

If only Florida and Ohio had counted all their votes, Al, instead of Bush, would have avoided our current mess! With 5000 less dead and 45,000 less wounded, and trillions cheaper!

His cruise will be in his next film.

If you don't know the story of the "Northwest Passage" search, you can check Wiki or I'll tell you.

Al Gores loss in Florida was legit. Al has his campaign manager, BILL DALY (Son of old Chicago Mayor Daly - 1968 Riots) go down to Florida to do VOTE Recounts. This is a tool that Bill learned from his dad at the kitchen table during dinner. Any body in Chicago knows that in a recount you get 1% to 2% more total votes. So what Chicago Dems do is count only the precincts they did well in so that the vote total gets boosted in their favor. Hence the only legal way to do a recount is to count ALL the precincts. The Supreme Court knew that the Gore-Daly team was illegally manipulating votes and ruled accordingly. Have you ever done a recount Bonker's? I have - in Chicago and seen the corruption. Now our Dem friends can't manipulate chads on electronic ballots so they rely on another couple of Chicago tricks - Count the dead and vote early and often.

Get Smart Bonkers and drop the Democrat party of corruption!

If you look at the forecast from the Peachtree City NWS office here you'll see that the snow isn't supposed to start until late in the day Thursday and overnight into Friday, not Wednesday.

you will see the article does state Thursday afternoon - Wednesday is not mentioned.

Remember forecasts are sometimes fluid. Timing is everything. The current forcast discussion now reads:

...KEEPING FORECAST AREA BETWEEN THE TWO SYSTEMS AND
MUCH DRIER THAN PREVIOUS MODEL RUNS. AT THE SAME TIME THE CANADIAN
CONTINUES TO SHOW GOOD MOISTURE ACROSS THE AREA...AND SOME SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA.ALTHOUGH CONFIDENCE IS
SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN THE PAST FEW DAYS REGARDING THIS EVENT WILL
CONTINUE TO SHOW BEST CHANCE FOR MOISTURE/SNOW THURSDAY NIGHT INTO
EARLY FRIDAY ALTHOUGH WILL LOWER ACCUMULATIONS BASED UPON CURRENT
TRENDS. BROAD SURFACE HIGH BUILDS INTO THE AREA THROUGH THE WEEKEND
WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES ON TAP. GUIDANCE TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO
SHOW BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE EXTENDED PERIODS.

I'm fully aware that forecasts are fluid, but the current flow of the cold front isn't pacing in time for a Wednesday night snow event here (which is what the Citizen article says). The forecast discussion says it'll be more likely on Thursday/Thursday night.

Submitted by hsh87 on Tue, 01/05/2010 - 1:38pm.

Where are you seeing Wednesday? Even the article title says Thursday. I know they need a proof-reader but seriously.

Submitted by Hey on Tue, 01/05/2010 - 4:02pm.

The article and headline did say "Wednesday" earlier today, but it has been since corrected. I noticed it also and thought about saying something too, but I didn't want Cy to argue with me about it.
