... I'll miss you.

Went by the "Wild Bird Center" today, the one by "Target" and it was closed up with all the merchandise gone. No notices on the door or anything. I can only assume it's gone for good. I like the original bird store "Wild Birds Unlimited" by the old Kroger too but it was nice to have two bird stores in town. Sigh.....

For the life of me I can't understand how anyone thought that PTC could support TWO of these stores.
Even one would be miraculous in survival!

The rent along for one of those stores is somewhere between 40,000 and 60,000 dollars per year.
It would take $125,000 dollars worth of sales just to pay the rent.

Other overhead is likely about 150,000 which would include the owner's salary and 2-3 helpers and payroll taxes.

Now we are approaching a half million dollars worth of sales to support one store, which would include utilities, asset taxes, depreciation, etc.

There aren't enough birds and things to eat and sleep in that much stuff sold.

A million dollars sales for two stores.

Reminds me of a good cook who think just because he can cook well that all he has to do is open a restaurant!
He will have fun cooking, but never considered how he would turn 30 seats 10 times a day to pay everything. Never dawned on the cook!

That is why 2 of 3 retail businesses fail about 3 times before closing forever.

For most part these places must do pretty well. There are 3 of them within a 1/4 mile of each in Marietta. Every time I visit my in-laws I am amazed that all three place keep going.
