I have come to notice that there are a great number of cars from other states here in Georgia. I have repeatedly seen the same cars week after week, month after month. A person has 30 days to change their license plates as well as their driver’s license when moving here from another state. I cannot see where it would be a problem for law enforcement to pull over a car with out of state license plates to check to see how long they have been in Georgia and if they have moved here to ticket them if they have been here for 30 days or more. There seems to be a great deal of “lost tags” or “tag applied for” driving around. Stop these vehicles to see if in fact this is the case. You may also want to check on those “dealer tags.” This might help the municipalities with their financial shortcomings by enforcing all of the above.

I sure hope Fayette County received some sort of warranty on the paving of Banks and Gingercake roads. If you ride down either one you will notice that the pavement is uneven and has already had to be somewhat patched in some places. Both seem to be shoddy jobs, and if it was my driveway I would not pay for it. The commissioners need to take a ride down these roads and see if they really are happy with what they are paying for. I would not be.

We have the research, the analysis, the solution, and the development of the vaccine for H1N1 virus. We have had the similar process every year for the annual flu vaccines. Go back in history. Those of you who can remember, we had smallpox shots in school, diphtheria shots, polio shots, German measles shots, etc. Who did all this work, and who funded these programs, and who made it available for getting these shots? It was not the private sector, or Big Pharma. It was you, the taxpayer and the federal government who did it. The next time you are questioned about a government option, remember who it is that came through when no one else did. The free-enterprise medical system did not do it unless it was funded or prodded by a government-funded program. Let those who have not fared as well as you to at least have the option to pick someone who has come through in the past.

To all Peachtree City residents in The Summit, Summer Brooke, Rockspray, Meadow Run and Timberlay: PTC Council this Thursday will consider a proposal to install a cell phone tower at the public park area next to Oak Grove School, along with three other locations in town. This request should be voted NO, NO, NO up front, due to proximity to our homes and school and recreation area. Contact City Council and mayor (email council@peachtree-city.org) before this 7 p.m. meeting or speak up at the meeting to voice your resounding displeasure with this proposal.

My husband was recently selected for Fayette County jury duty. As any good tax paying citizen does, they show up when requested. On Monday morning, my husband arrived with 100 other Fayette County citizens. They were only there for 30 minutes when they were told to go home and not come back. Apparently there had been 27 cases on the books, 25 of which were settled the previous week and at the last minute, the other two cases were settled out of court. Now the county is going to pay out $25 per person, a total of $2,500 to the people who showed up for 30 minutes. Not only that, the people who showed up had to arrange to take time off from work, cancel vacation plans, arrange for childcare, etc. Wouldn’t it have been easier and cheaper to have had a few of the court’s employees stay and work a couple of hours overtime on Friday and call these people to tell them not to show up? What a waste of our tax dollars! I am sure this must happen on a regular basis.

Picture yourself getting your hair cut. Guys storm in with guns. Owner hysterical. Has to be removed. Hair stylists ordered to finish up and pack up their tools and are never to return. What a day at a local Peachtree City hair salon. The owner apparently failed to pay her taxes and all the employees have to scramble to find employment with no notice. It’s not like the owner had no warning of this happening. To put all those employees and clients in that situation is just terrible.

On the subject of litter it is very sad that the city must partially depend on good samaritans to clean up the litter on and around our streets. While driving on Cascade Road in Atlanta the other day I noticed signs which said $500 fine for littering. Would someone please explain to me why we don’t have the backbone to install these type signs on our roads? Is it that we don’t want to upset parents of spoiled young punks who have no respect for anything or anyone? You slap a 17-year-old with a $500 fine and I guarantee you he will think long and hard before he throws that Taco Bell bag out the window next time. The Keep PTC Beautiful signs should be crushed and melted at the next PTC Idealist gathering and replaced by the aforementioned.

What has the procrastination of golf cart tunnel connection paths got to do with procrastination of cart path connections to a 2-year-old cart bridge over the railroad tracks? For two years that tunnel has been in place, and for two years, golf cart drivers have had to drive south to the Kelly Drive tunnel, just to get to the Post Office, The Avenue, or Huddleston Road. Now the mayor is saying that they are waiting for “right-of-way” approval. Could this not have been completed two years ago? PTC City Council and mayor get a five-star rating as procrastination pros.

Regarding posting the salaries of county office personnel and county school principals, the latter can be found at http://open.ga.gov.

It’s great that the three from Fayette made it to the “Price is Right,” but someone needs to tell the company that printed the t-shirts the apostrophe in “y’all” comes AFTER the Y, NOT the A! Not real good advertising there, “J-Max.”

To the girl walking on the cart path bridge beside her friend: I’m sorry that I ran over you on my bike, but I said, “To your left,” and you chose to ignore me. I hope you’re OK.

Please tell me that’s not a rubber chicken strapped to the front of the fire truck on Paschall Road in Peachtree City. What’s wrong with a flag, 9/11 banner or anything else that represents what you do for a living? I was a firefighter for many years at a much larger department. If my house is on fire or I’m involved in an accident, I don’t want a rubber chicken to be the first representation of the help I’m about to receive.

The doctors and nurses at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, fifth floor, west wing, rock! They made a horrible week for our family bearable. They cared for our loved one with professionalism, dedication and great respect. They cared for our family with patience and concern. No words can express our appreciation enough.

As a McIntosh teacher, I am so grateful for the work of our PTSO. They provide a host of volunteers at the school. In addition, their financial support has been tremendous. They provide money for many classroom supplies and other essentials that would not be funded otherwise. I cannot say enough about the tireless work of these people. Thanks, McIntosh PTSO.

To the MHS parent complaining about PTO dues and all of the things he/she has to pay for that his/her child does not participate in, I ask you: Why do I have to pay for YOUR child’s public school education in addition to my children’s private school tuition, for which I am paying through the nose? Why does my brother, who is single and has no children, have to pay for YOUR child to go to school? Ever think of all of the people paying for things your child does? Wake up! The system needs to be fixed, but at least you’re actually getting something for your money.

I am 13 years old and have lived in PTC for four years. I moved here from a nice area of New York, but it was nothing in comparison to beauty that I found in PTC. I loved how everything was so green and wooded and enjoy watching the variety of animals and birds that live in these wooded areas. PTC was not congested and over-commercialized when we moved here. In the short four years I have been here, I have seen trees knocked down and farm lands plowed to make way for more homes, more stores and more roads. While it is nice to have convenient shopping, I think that we have enough already. I think that instead of building more stores we should try to fill the ones that are currently empty and leave our trees alone so we can all continue to enjoy their beauty. Don’t let PTC turn into just another congested and over-commercialized city. Help save the natural beauty and keep PTC special. Thank you.

I wish PTC would not allow outdoor burning. It does nothing but pollute the air and stink up the whole neighborhood. Why can’t the citizens just take their yard waste to the recycling center and be a good neighbor?

To all of you that drop your children at Rising Starr Middle School or Starr’s Mill High School in the morning and “cut the line” by short-cutting through Peeples Elementary: If you think that all of us that sit in the proper line and follow the proper procedure do not see what you are doing or aren’t as smart as you are in figuring out the easy way, you are wrong. We see the lack of character you display to us and more importantly to your children. You obviously believe that your time is more important than ours, that you don’t need to follow the rules and that if you don’t plan to get out the door on time, by all means cut right ahead and leave the people that do sitting there holding the bag as you blast by. I am astonished by the lack of courtesy you show and notice the same people doing this day in and day out. As frustrating as it is to see high school students do this (white H1 Hummer with your Panther player number sticker on the back), I am continually astonished by the parents with their Ga. Tech license plates and other identifiable cars with lack of common courtesy you display.

One has to wonder how much the oversight of not including the $49 street light fee on property tax bills cost the taxpayers of Fayette County in needless re-printing and mailing cost. At 44 cents for postage plus printing and handling, it had to be at least, $150,000? $200,000? More? How about a little more responsibility with the money you’re handling and throw in a little quality control before you print the whole lot and mail it the first time. Here’s a suggestion: next time (and for the sake of transparency in government), how about including in the letter stating the reason for having to send a “corrected” notice how much it cost the county to send that “corrected” notice along with the name of the person who should have caught the mistake the first time around. Maybe if someone knew their name would be publicly associated with the error, more care would be used in handling OUR money.

What does anyone know about the huge teenage party busted in Highgrove subdivision on New Years Eve? I heard over 100 kids (primarily Starr's Mill students) were arrested, given citations for MIP and running from the police. I've heard some very sad rumors about some really good kids.

Submitted by skyspy on Mon, 01/04/2010 - 8:12pm.

This actually sounds pretty tame compared to other "events" brought on by these kids.

Submitted by Im just saying on Tue, 01/05/2010 - 3:28pm.

Seriously? Tame? 100+ students from 1 school get citations for minor in possession (all 16 and under), some arrested hand cuffed and taken to jail (all 17 and older), others arrested for running from police (felony). If it was a a few kids just "accused" of drinking alcohol by other teens, then I would consider it tame, but over 100 kids given citations or arrested by the police while K9's searched for drugs is not a "tame" party. There were kids that got physically violent with the police officers, many kids stayed in jail for 2 days, parents were arrested and you think that is tame? I hope you don't have a teenager that you are teaching your morales too. I hope the school system doesn't brush it under the rug like nothing happened, they will never learn a lesson if they do not suffer the consequences for breaking the law.

Your figures don't jibe with the papers or my contact. It seems you like to exaggerate.

Submitted by Im just saying on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 2:56pm.

The numbers do not match because many were given citations and parents picked them up. There was not enough police cars or jail space to take them all in. I was nearby, close enough to see what was happening. Maybe your contact is a SMHS parent.

Submitted by Spyglass on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 2:59pm.

My contact was my Son who chose not to go. He told me it had happened before and claims the parents are a little on the crazy side. To say the least. I'm glad no one was hurt.

That said, I do think the drinking age should be 18....

Submitted by skyspy on Tue, 01/05/2010 - 5:02pm.

I agree with you that their behavior is OUTRAGEOUS! I'm just saying that this has happened before and just because you maybe did't read about it in the paper doesn't mean that it didn't happen. Usually there is a lot of property damage to go along with the drinking and drugs.

I have seen these little maggots swing at our cops before and it doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is that this is the first time that I have heard of where these little birth control failures were actually punished. Just because I haven't heard of them being punished before doesn't mean that it hasn't happened.

That being said it is ABOUT TIME! I wish we could lock their parents up with them.

Submitted by flightplan on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 2:10pm.

wow, what part of Fayette County do you live in Skyspy? Such anger toward a bunch of teenagers and parents? Maybe this is just a repeating problem in Highgrove. And really, why are all of you claiming this behavior is so outrageous? I mean c'mon, were you never a teenager? Kids drinking underage at a new years eve party. Some tried to run for it. Geez, that's never happened before. If we just lock them all up, I'm sure it will never, ever happen again.

We all went to our fair share as teenagers. I have never met anybody who didn't at the very least try a beer or a cigarette before they were 18. I don't think there is anything wrong or immoral about it. If this were 15 or 20 years ago there would not have been any charges for something like this. That said. This isn't 15 or 20 years ago and if you are an adult who supplies minor's with alcohol you're an idiot. At this point in our history there is no way you could host a party like this and not understand the legal risks as a kid or an adult.

Submitted by flightplan on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 4:00pm.

You are so right. Society is different today. That was then, this is now. Quite frankly, I liked it better back "then". Drinking age was 18. Being a teenager in high school was tons of fun 20+ years ago. You didn't have to worry about being arrested every time you turned around. I don't think it's nearly as much fun now. I doubt there is any less teenage drinking these days - just more kids arrested and fines paid.

Honestly, the drinking age was probably 18 when he turned of age..if'n I had to take a WAG. But don't let that stand in the way of a good rabble rousing comment to the paper.

Submitted by Im just saying on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 1:15pm.

I've heard of lots of bad behavior with kids all over Fayette County, but nothing of this significant size. I find it interesting that Starr's Mill is rarely in the Citizen for negative press. If it was Whitewater, McIntosh, Fayette County or Sandy Creek kids everyone would be dragging the kids, school and parents through the mud. Does someone at athe Citizen have a reason to keep it out of the paper? Also, I heard the parents of the party were arrested.

According to the 30 day NOAA Weather Center:

BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE FAVORED FROM WESTERN TEXAS EASTWARD ALONG THE GULF COAST, IN THE SOUTHEASTERN STATES, AND EXTENDING TO THE SOUTHERN MID-ATLANTIC.

WSB's Kirk Mellish said that we haven't seen weather this cold since 1989. BTW, there is a 40% chance of snow this Thursday. See Kirk's winter weather forecast here. Pay particular attention to the forecast of Jan 13.

A word to the wise, check those furnace filters. As our very own resident heating and air expert "hutch" can tell you, a good percentage of furnace problems stem from clogged filters.

NOAA--? NOAA--Oh yeah, the same folks who are on their way to destroying the offshore fishing industry in Florida with their Red Snapper ban based on old, flawed data. Charter Captains, sellers of fuel, bait & tackle, boat repair folks, will all be out of a job. A vet of 30 yrs fishing, Captain Robert Johnson will have to sell his Jodie Lynn Head Boat in St Augustine. Sad times all pushed by misguided environmentalists, unquestioned by the current administration For weather, I like Intellicast. I just know when I have to bust one inch thick ice out of my bird bath, it's cold! But I do it so the birds will have access to water.

I should have just said the National Weather Service. Of course it took a former "G" man to point out NOAA's problems. As for the services either one works. Intellicast is part of the Weather Channel Companies which is owned by a consortium of NBC and other private equity entities. Heck, we even use them for WX and forecasting.

BTW, WSI and NWS forecasts are in agreement regarding the 30 day temps forecast. It's going to be cold. All we need is a low pressure system to form over the gulf and track northeasterly thereby pumping water vapor up this way and "shazam" we could have sleet, freezing rain, or snow.

Forgot to give this tip: if you want a 10 day forecast, go to the "Local Weather" section and where it says "city or airport designation, type in "KFFC" --that will get you the 10 day forecast for Falcon Field, PTC. History tells me it's as accurate as any other forecast.

We watched the High School All Star game Saturday. It looks like Auburns got a few promising recruits coming next year. Oh, and Joe Montana's boy has committed to Washington. It will be interesting in the next few years to see if he's as good as his Pop. Kinda like watching the Manning boys come into their own.

These are mandatory voluntary furlough days, I beg your pardon, thus I ain't making money! And, just before we left for this round of furloughs, we got a form to fill out for our voluntary spring furlough days! Spring was just kinda slipped in on us. I continue to be amazed, after all my years with my current employer, at how things are slipped in on us, and then suddenly become policy. For example, when there were raises, we used to get them in July, years ago raises were delayed a month or so to build up something for retirement fund that was fine, we all understood; then next year put off another month or two for some other thing, raises were finally granted in January. After all those things leveled out did we go back to July raises, nope. So I'm wondering if these furlough days will become policy. . Yes, I know, I AM glad I have a job.

BTW, how's the book coming?

We all want to know.

Yes sir. Mr. Bonkers has this thing for you. Obviously he has more interests than FOX legs. This might help you understand today's Bonkers situation.

You see. Mr. Bonkers bought this deodorant yesterday. The instructions said remove cap and push up bottom. As it stands today he can barely walk, but now, to the delight of those that must tolerate an existence with him, the room now smells much better compared to most days.

Be kind to the old fool Mr. Cyclist. Pity such as you would a wayward child.

Season's Greetings and Merry Christmas to you and yours! I hope all is well with you and your family. One of these days, we need to gather some like-minded people together and plot the takeover of Fayette County and bring some progressive thinking into "the bubble." I haven't been on here much myself, however, I just ran into JeffC while daughter and I were at the grocery store, picking up a pork tenderloin for my Pork Green Chile Stew and I must admit, it was fantastic to finally meet my blogger hero in person. We could probably sit down with him over beers sometime and have an enlightening discussion about the Middle East as it relates to U.S. policy, as well as the increased radicalization and militancy of America since Obama has taken office.

(...the Pork Green Chile turned out great, although this particular batch was super hot. I told my kids if they ate their entire bowl I'd give them $5 each...they couldn't finish it...hahahahahahahahaha!)

Don't you remember the fanatical conservatives Denise, bpr/lilly and Fred Garvin? History has proven, at least on this blog, that the conservatives are hard-wired for stalking, not liberals.

Besides, if I had my choice as to whom I would be a groupie for, it would have to be either Mick Jagger or Sting. Silly man!

As Hutch told you (thanks Hutch!), I don't remember Denise or bpr. I do remember Fred though. Are you saying he stalked someone on here? Hmmmm???

I was being silly. But, no more silly than you fawning over meeting Jeff. I'm sure he's a great guy though, political leanings aside.

As for short memories, apparently you have one yourself. You are wanting to "gather some like-minded people together" here in Fayette County. I already pointed out to you that your like-minded people can be found any day.....at Chuck E Cheese in Fayetteville. Check it out!!

This man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. One sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around,
he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island.

After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two
animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset.
One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful
cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for
romance.

As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to
the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm
around it..

But, the sheepdog, very protective of the sheep, growled fiercely
until the man took his arm from around the sheep. After that, the
three of them continued to enjoy the sunsets together, but there was
no more cuddling.

A few weeks passed by and, lo and behold, there was another
shipwreck.

The only survivor was Nancy Pelosi and that evening, the man
brought Nancy to the evening beach ritual. It was another beautiful
evening - red sky, cirrus clouds, a warm and gentle breeze - perfect
for a night of romance. Pretty soon, the man started to get 'those
feelings' again.. He fought the urges as long as he could but he
finally gave in and leaned over to Nancy and told her he hadn't had
sex for months. Nancy batted her eyelashes and asked if there was
anything she could do for him.

He said, 'Well, as a matter of fact there is. Would you mind taking the dog for a walk?'

George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to h%&#. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for.

The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth. Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes.

When he was finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a check.

Next Queen Elizabeth call England and talks for 30 minutes.

When she was finished the devil informs her that cost is 6 million dollars, so Queen Elizabeth writes him a check.

Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours.

When he was finished the devil informed him that there would be no charge for the call and feel free to call the USA anytime.

When Putin hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call the USA free.

The devil replied, “Since Obama became president of the USA, the country has gone to h%#@, so it’s a local call.”

The Pope and Nancy Pelosi are on stage in front of a huge crowd.

The Pope leans towards Mrs. Pelosi and says, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but go deep into their hearts and for the rest of their lives whenever they speak of this day they will rejoice!"

Pelosi replied, "I seriously doubt that; with one little wave of your
hand? Show me."

So the Pope slapped her.

DEATH OF THE OLD COW

Suddenly, a cow jumps out into the road, they hit it full on, and the car comes to a stop. Nancy, in her usual charming manner, says to the chauffeur, "You get out and check--you were driving."

So the chauffeur gets out, checks, and reports that the animal is dead but it was old. "You were driving, so you go and tell the farmer," says Nancy.

Two hours later the chauffeur returns totally plastered, hair ruffled with a big grin on his face. "My God, what happened to you?" asks Nancy .

The chauffeur replies, "When I got there, the farmer opened his best bottle of malt whisky, the wife gave me a slap-up meal and the daughter made love to me."

"What on earth did you say?" asks Nancy.

"I just knocked on the door and when it opened I said to them, "I'm Nancy Pelosi's chauffeur, and I've just killed the old cow."

I assume you mean why aren't the Muslims concerned about other Muslims blowing up minarets everywhere?

The same reason we have sessions every once in a while of Christians burning down certain churches!

Holy War!

All of those countries around Switzerland have never been of any help to us or anyone else in war. They view a minaret as a thing which can be viewed as something others might take offense at and blame them.

However they expect us to keep such groups as the NAZIS off their land. Kind of like the Italians and the French.
We could do that, I suppose except we have things valuable enough to bomb and they do not.

Submitted by Davids mom on Sat, 12/05/2009 - 10:23pm.

The Muslim world is very concerned about the suicide attacks in Mosques. It is their people that are being killed. . the innocents. Where did you get the idea that they were not concerned about the killing of their people while praying in their house of worship?

This gives some background on 'moderate' Muslims

This was written around 2001 - but still gives some interesting insight.

Where did you get the idea that they were not concerned about the killing of their people while praying in their house of worship?

Perhaps by the lack of acknowledgment by a Grand Mufti or the Islamic Republic of Iran of these deeds against the innocent. Heaven forbid if you are in Sudan and name a teddy bear "Muhammad" or wear pants instead of burka.

They addressed that in the reference I noted. In the Sudan, Ahmed is OK if you live in Omdurman. Muslims are not that different than Christians - in that they come in all colors and beliefs regarding the 'right and wrong' of their religion. The 'white cross' in the South did not represent the teachings of Jesus.
