I have come to notice that there are a great number of cars from other states here in Georgia. I have repeatedly seen the same cars week after week, month after month. A person has 30 days to change their license plates as well as their driver’s license when moving here from another state. I cannot see where it would be a problem for law enforcement to pull over a car with out of state license plates to check to see how long they have been in Georgia and if they have moved here to ticket them if they have been here for 30 days or more. There seems to be a great deal of “lost tags” or “tag applied for” driving around. Stop these vehicles to see if in fact this is the case. You may also want to check on those “dealer tags.” This might help the municipalities with their financial shortcomings by enforcing all of the above. I sure hope Fayette County received some sort of warranty on the paving of Banks and Gingercake roads. If you ride down either one you will notice that the pavement is uneven and has already had to be somewhat patched in some places. Both seem to be shoddy jobs, and if it was my driveway I would not pay for it. The commissioners need to take a ride down these roads and see if they really are happy with what they are paying for. I would not be. We have the research, the analysis, the solution, and the development of the vaccine for H1N1 virus. We have had the similar process every year for the annual flu vaccines. Go back in history. Those of you who can remember, we had smallpox shots in school, diphtheria shots, polio shots, German measles shots, etc. Who did all this work, and who funded these programs, and who made it available for getting these shots? It was not the private sector, or Big Pharma. It was you, the taxpayer and the federal government who did it. The next time you are questioned about a government option, remember who it is that came through when no one else did. The free-enterprise medical system did not do it unless it was funded or prodded by a government-funded program. Let those who have not fared as well as you to at least have the option to pick someone who has come through in the past. To all Peachtree City residents in The Summit, Summer Brooke, Rockspray, Meadow Run and Timberlay: PTC Council this Thursday will consider a proposal to install a cell phone tower at the public park area next to Oak Grove School, along with three other locations in town. This request should be voted NO, NO, NO up front, due to proximity to our homes and school and recreation area. Contact City Council and mayor (email council@peachtree-city.org) before this 7 p.m. meeting or speak up at the meeting to voice your resounding displeasure with this proposal. My husband was recently selected for Fayette County jury duty. As any good tax paying citizen does, they show up when requested. On Monday morning, my husband arrived with 100 other Fayette County citizens. They were only there for 30 minutes when they were told to go home and not come back. Apparently there had been 27 cases on the books, 25 of which were settled the previous week and at the last minute, the other two cases were settled out of court. Now the county is going to pay out $25 per person, a total of $2,500 to the people who showed up for 30 minutes. Not only that, the people who showed up had to arrange to take time off from work, cancel vacation plans, arrange for childcare, etc. Wouldn’t it have been easier and cheaper to have had a few of the court’s employees stay and work a couple of hours overtime on Friday and call these people to tell them not to show up? What a waste of our tax dollars! I am sure this must happen on a regular basis. Picture yourself getting your hair cut. Guys storm in with guns. Owner hysterical. Has to be removed. Hair stylists ordered to finish up and pack up their tools and are never to return. What a day at a local Peachtree City hair salon. The owner apparently failed to pay her taxes and all the employees have to scramble to find employment with no notice. It’s not like the owner had no warning of this happening. To put all those employees and clients in that situation is just terrible. On the subject of litter it is very sad that the city must partially depend on good samaritans to clean up the litter on and around our streets. While driving on Cascade Road in Atlanta the other day I noticed signs which said $500 fine for littering. Would someone please explain to me why we don’t have the backbone to install these type signs on our roads? Is it that we don’t want to upset parents of spoiled young punks who have no respect for anything or anyone? You slap a 17-year-old with a $500 fine and I guarantee you he will think long and hard before he throws that Taco Bell bag out the window next time. The Keep PTC Beautiful signs should be crushed and melted at the next PTC Idealist gathering and replaced by the aforementioned. What has the procrastination of golf cart tunnel connection paths got to do with procrastination of cart path connections to a 2-year-old cart bridge over the railroad tracks? For two years that tunnel has been in place, and for two years, golf cart drivers have had to drive south to the Kelly Drive tunnel, just to get to the Post Office, The Avenue, or Huddleston Road. Now the mayor is saying that they are waiting for “right-of-way” approval. Could this not have been completed two years ago? PTC City Council and mayor get a five-star rating as procrastination pros. Regarding posting the salaries of county office personnel and county school principals, the latter can be found at http://open.ga.gov. It’s great that the three from Fayette made it to the “Price is Right,” but someone needs to tell the company that printed the t-shirts the apostrophe in “y’all” comes AFTER the Y, NOT the A! Not real good advertising there, “J-Max.” To the girl walking on the cart path bridge beside her friend: I’m sorry that I ran over you on my bike, but I said, “To your left,” and you chose to ignore me. I hope you’re OK. Please tell me that’s not a rubber chicken strapped to the front of the fire truck on Paschall Road in Peachtree City. What’s wrong with a flag, 9/11 banner or anything else that represents what you do for a living? I was a firefighter for many years at a much larger department. If my house is on fire or I’m involved in an accident, I don’t want a rubber chicken to be the first representation of the help I’m about to receive. The doctors and nurses at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, fifth floor, west wing, rock! They made a horrible week for our family bearable. They cared for our loved one with professionalism, dedication and great respect. They cared for our family with patience and concern. No words can express our appreciation enough. As a McIntosh teacher, I am so grateful for the work of our PTSO. They provide a host of volunteers at the school. In addition, their financial support has been tremendous. They provide money for many classroom supplies and other essentials that would not be funded otherwise. I cannot say enough about the tireless work of these people. Thanks, McIntosh PTSO. To the MHS parent complaining about PTO dues and all of the things he/she has to pay for that his/her child does not participate in, I ask you: Why do I have to pay for YOUR child’s public school education in addition to my children’s private school tuition, for which I am paying through the nose? Why does my brother, who is single and has no children, have to pay for YOUR child to go to school? Ever think of all of the people paying for things your child does? Wake up! The system needs to be fixed, but at least you’re actually getting something for your money. I am 13 years old and have lived in PTC for four years. I moved here from a nice area of New York, but it was nothing in comparison to beauty that I found in PTC. I loved how everything was so green and wooded and enjoy watching the variety of animals and birds that live in these wooded areas. PTC was not congested and over-commercialized when we moved here. In the short four years I have been here, I have seen trees knocked down and farm lands plowed to make way for more homes, more stores and more roads. While it is nice to have convenient shopping, I think that we have enough already. I think that instead of building more stores we should try to fill the ones that are currently empty and leave our trees alone so we can all continue to enjoy their beauty. Don’t let PTC turn into just another congested and over-commercialized city. Help save the natural beauty and keep PTC special. Thank you. I wish PTC would not allow outdoor burning. It does nothing but pollute the air and stink up the whole neighborhood. Why can’t the citizens just take their yard waste to the recycling center and be a good neighbor? To all of you that drop your children at Rising Starr Middle School or Starr’s Mill High School in the morning and “cut the line” by short-cutting through Peeples Elementary: If you think that all of us that sit in the proper line and follow the proper procedure do not see what you are doing or aren’t as smart as you are in figuring out the easy way, you are wrong. We see the lack of character you display to us and more importantly to your children. You obviously believe that your time is more important than ours, that you don’t need to follow the rules and that if you don’t plan to get out the door on time, by all means cut right ahead and leave the people that do sitting there holding the bag as you blast by. I am astonished by the lack of courtesy you show and notice the same people doing this day in and day out. As frustrating as it is to see high school students do this (white H1 Hummer with your Panther player number sticker on the back), I am continually astonished by the parents with their Ga. Tech license plates and other identifiable cars with lack of common courtesy you display. One has to wonder how much the oversight of not including the $49 street light fee on property tax bills cost the taxpayers of Fayette County in needless re-printing and mailing cost. At 44 cents for postage plus printing and handling, it had to be at least, $150,000? $200,000? More? How about a little more responsibility with the money you’re handling and throw in a little quality control before you print the whole lot and mail it the first time. Here’s a suggestion: next time (and for the sake of transparency in government), how about including in the letter stating the reason for having to send a “corrected” notice how much it cost the county to send that “corrected” notice along with the name of the person who should have caught the mistake the first time around. Maybe if someone knew their name would be publicly associated with the error, more care would be used in handling OUR money. login to post comments |
