I recommend adding the following:

1. The portal needs to show grades in all classes on one page like the actual paper report card does.

2. Add in the cafeteria lunch account balance and the ability to pay via paypal or credit/debit card online.

I like having one place to show grades for all students in the family. Why don't the elementary schools use it?

I agree that adding a way to see your child's lunch account would be helpful. My kids will either lose their sheet with the balance on it or even forget it, so they might go hungry or have to take a lunch.
Many schools out West use a similar system, but you do have means to pay for your child's lunch account.
As for the teacher's updating on a daily basis, it will have to be talked about on a daily basis for them to keep it up to date, but looks good.
I am sure that if enough people spoke up about the lunch account issue, that it might be considered or added later on.

Works great on Foxfire.

The teachers seem to be using it more and more, some very timely - between my 2 students probably 75% of their info is kept current.

What would be nice would be a way to see what updates have been made between logins so I don't have to go to every class to try to see what's new.

It probably isn't initially but I hope the system ends up being a time saver for teachers.

I guess this garbage is what our e-splost money went for. The old way to check grades was much easier.

Go back and re read my post. Never mind here is the part you seemed to miss:

"I like the idea of being able to log in and find out how my child is doing in school. HOWEVER, unless the teachers enter the data into the system on a timely basis it is useless.

On more than one occassion I have either experienced (via my child) or heard about problems (via parents of other students) where the teachers wait for weeks to enter the data ino the system only to be too late for the student to recognize that they are not doing well or failing a class."

If you read this again you should be able to discern that my complaint is not the system but the fact that many teachers do not update the system regularly and only provide students their grades via the system.

It was really irritating at first because not only does Infinite Campus NOT work on Mozilla Firefox, the website doesn't tell you that you can only use Internet Explorer. The kid and I are checking on a regular basis. I like that the entire family can be accessed from the same screen, and that teachers can comment more. It seems that you can get a better picture of the student's grades in each class, but I really wish that I could get an overall report on all the classes at once - just a down and dirty "what is the grade in each class all at once" kind of report.

Is the school system considering adding the student accounts to the grades facet? It looks like it would be possible to add a financial module that would keep track of student lunch accounts. This might really help out the lunchroom staff...and parents who can't remember how much is in their kids' cafeteria accounts. I'm not sure why the elementary students are in there since there are no grades posted for them.

PTCMom,

I haven't had any trouble with either FireFox or Safari. What OS are you using?

Not work in firefox? I've used it every time - no issues. What I DON'T like about this system is the shutting it down for a week around progress report time.

We have had no problems at all using it on Firefox.

From my understanding, this is the 1st year Fayette Co. has used Infinite Campus and it took a while for the school board to train the teachers on how to use it, so the teachers may still be learning it. You might want to give it a few more weeks and then see if the teachers are updating the information. Yes, Coweta does still have it.

And Infinite Campus will only work if parents are checking it as well. No matter if you're children are in elementary or high school, parents shouldn't rely on their children informing them of their grades, especially if there are bad grades - the kids will want to hide them. With the wonderful tools we have right at our finger tips, we can check up on our kids any time we want!

The teachers seem to use that as a less "confrontative" way to deliver news (bad or good) to the students and/or parents. I much prefer a note, email or call from a teacher to let me know (sooner than later) that there is an issue that needs to be dealt with to get the kid back on track.

Infinite campus is a good tool, but dont let it replace an actual conversation with parents.

Why do you need any of this? It should be your child's responsibility to tell you the grades he is making (okay - maybe not an elementary child - but certainly a child in grades 6-12).

Any child who doesn't make his parents aware of his grades is irresponsible. Any parent (of a child in grades 6-12) who allows such irresponsible behavior is an enabler.

They send instructions home on a green piece of paper on how to sign in. Instead of giving the sign-in web address the instructions clearly stated: Click Here. (eyes rolling)

And then after surfing forever I found a place to sign in and the directions didn't work.

Are we the only people struggling with this?

So to answer your question.....Thus far we Hate It! Smiling

We have (*had?) it in Coweta. Once you get used to it it is pretty good. You can check your kids attendance daily if you want and see grades daily as they are posted in each class. Great for 'nipping it in the bud' as Barney liked to say.

Hang in there Git, it's worth it.

*Not sure if we still have it or not in Coweta, all the kids are grown now. Those who were here moved on to greener pastures and better school systems with better pay, better benefits, and NO furloughs.
