I promise to not be on the front page of the Citizen embarassing myself and the residents that I claim to represent.

I promise to not try and blow-up everything that was done before I was elected.

I promise to not cater to senior citizens or any other group solely to get their votes. It's all about the "greater good", not anyone's special interests, whether that's seniors, developers, "young people", black, white, green, etcetera.

I promise to not waste taxpayer dollars on babysitting services for my family.

I promise not to attack other residents of PTC personally or make accusations of criminal behavior against them simply because I disagree with their political opinions or what profession they choose to work.

I promise to stay out of the way of city staff as they are long-term employees while I as a councilmember am a temporary person with less knowledge on city issues than the city staff.

I make promises that can be kept. I wouldn't make a good politician:)

NUK

Would be nice.

Too bad neither candidate will live up to that one.

You changed your comments, PTC Guy, so my response is not required. Smiling

The Mayor of Blogville has spoken - good day to you all, beloved citizens.

I mixed up two different topics and it was inappropriate for this one so I changed it before you posted.

If you had responded before I did I would have had to leave it and explain in another post.

Forum etiquette.

Thanks for the explanation.

I'd like to thank the academy. It's an honor just to be nominated.

Seriously, nobody wants me on Council, most of all me. But here is the mindblower -- I'm all for long-term (read: permanent) funding the stormwater program via a utility.

Hope your head didn't explode.

Actually, it is the real way to go and one can be for Logsdon and still recognize that fact.

Just cannot guarantee Logsdon is on board.

You have to admit, though, a Council with that combination of names brings interesting thoughts to mind.

But I'm just coming up with bad limericks.

Maybe Logsdon just meant HE needed to study what staff had done. It's mandated (not the funding mechanism, but the program), and there are four other voting members. It will be addressed.

While I agree with you wholeheartedly on this issue, it isn't my number one priority.

Smiling

He says on every subject but assuming the debt he needs to study the data.

But somehow he knew enough to say assume the debt. And somehow he knows enough he can freeze and lower taxes.

Hello! Think about the implications here!

He knows on the Tennis Center because of who is backing him. And he says he will freeze and lower taxes because he knows that is what people want to hear.

This is as bad, or worse, than what you are angry at Brown about.

Since my name is on top of the Council list can I "rule the roost?" It's a "natural" for "birdman." Smiling
Boy would there be some "blogging" over that combo. But I suggest as our first official act we buy the Buckhead Brewery and move all council meetings there. Then make it a rule that the kegs must be filled prior to any meeting and that it is our responsibility to see to it that they are appropriately drained. At least our decisionmaking policies could be explained. And instead of opening the meetings with a prayer, we could open it with a toast or two.

Hey now, I'm the mayor! You're out of order!

Let me hold a press conference on that.

Submitted by birdman on Thu, 12/01/2005 - 10:57pm.

Can I vote on that? After all, my wife isn't suing anyone but if she is I'll just vote anyway and then the city can just pay a huge lawyer bill to defend it and besides, I always did like the idea of a Dog Park and maybe we could just build another bridge and put Wi-Fi at the bridges and maybe we could simply just...oh oh, I lost my train of thought. Guess if you don't hold a press conference you could just hold a debate. But this time maybe do it at an elementary school. Those 8 year olds need to see politics in action too.

Gee PTC Guy, we were having fun here. Why'd you have to go and get all serious on us. There are plenty of blogs for that.

Because you tried to sneak one in on the post I replied to.

Mayor idontknow needs to file ethics charges on you!

Ok, you caught me. But you can only file the ethics charge if I can hire an expensive lawyer. Actually it's only an evil plot to distract from my actual work here. Shame on you. Next thing you know you'll be ripping up my signs and tearing down my mailbox. But then again if you tear down my mailbox I won't get any bills so I can simply stop paying them and claim they are illegal. OOPS! There I go again.

Well guys and gals it's been fun. But he Brandy snifter is empty and it is getting onto the wee hours. Time to say adieu and press on to dreamland. It has been quite spirited and enjoyable. I do enjoy the bantering. Take care. Will no doubt see ya'll tomorrow (actually later today).

This blog looked lonely, so I thought I'd say thanks. I always thought I'd go no higher than assistant deputy dog catcher, level 1.

Don't vote for me, VOTE FOR LOGSDON. Tell Steve Brown you want him gone.

But you don't know, idontknow!

No sane person takes advice from someone who admits they don't know.

The wisest thing you can know in life is you know nothing. Just my opinion.

Learn every chance you get. THINK.
Yes, this even means asking questions, as PTC Guy does. He wants to know things, and that's admirable. Some of us know what will happen - there will be no "illegal closed meetings", no "unlawful backroom deals", no "secrets". And there never really were. It's a shame that openness gets confused with clarity. I guess I'll go back to the sausage example - do you eat sausage? Do you know how it's made?

Does anyone think that Mssrs. Brown and Company (not the jewelers) would allow it any other way than "open"?

If anyone wants to know anything, there's a wonderful law called the Freedom of Information Act that allows them to whatever they are legally entitled to view. It's not government's role to spoon-feed it to you. The democratic ideal involves public participation, and by that I mean THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE INFORMED. How many people actually take the time to read the council meeting agendas or briefings provided and available to ANYONE (or minutes, for that matter) prior to squawking about a topic? No, it's easier to gripe then to learn.

All the information is out there - if it's not online, someone advised me you can call City Hall. So it's all there - sometimes you have to READ it.

Many like to watch, few like to complain, and even fewer like to do anything about it.

By saying I don't know, perhaps I present opportunities to learn. To broaden my horizons.

So, quite simply, I'm proud to say "I don't know". There is no shame in admitting it, and only foolish pride to say otherwise.

Now admit you don't have a clue how Logsdon would vote, beyond assuming the Tennis debt, if he would be open or where he stands on issues.

So far he has been anything but Open Meeting on issues.
