"Setting the Scene - The Arts Downtown" served as the 2007 conference theme. Nearly 200 downtown experts converged on Columbus from Oct. 10-12 to discuss downtown development, specifically the impact and development of the creative, or "arts"-oriented, economy and exchange ideas. Fayetteville was presented with the award for the Most Creative Marketing Piece for their submittal of their 2007 Calendar of Events.

Jury: Ulrich mentally fit for trial

Woman accused of shooting ex-husband in PTC last year

April Dawn Ulrich, accused of shooting to death her ex-husband Eric Ulrich just over a year ago on the campus of NCR in Peachtree City will go on trial today on murder charges.

A jury decided Tuesday morning that Ulrich was competent enough to stand trial. During that hearing, the burden of proof was on the defense, which didn't offer testimony from either of the doctors who evaluated her mental fitness.

Redistricting group to work on 'Map B' Thursday

Committee due to present 2 maps to BOE Monday night at McIntosh

The grunt work of redrawing Fayette’s elementary school district lines is not over yet.

The committee plans to recommend two different maps to the school board for possible adoption, "Map A" and "Map B." But few if any committee members were totally happy with Map B, which they only got to work on for less than an hour Monday night in their first crack at it.

Fayette is 21st richest county in the country

Fayette County's median household income of $79,969 is close to cracking the top 20 of America's wealthiest jurisdictions. The county's No. 21 ranking is only topped in Georgia by Forsyth, which had a household income of $83,682 and ranked 13th nationally.

Teen concert coming to Fayetteville, Nov. 10

The Fayette County Youth Council will be holding a concert with Between the Trees at the Villages Amphitheater on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Mercy loses to Fellowship Christian, 43-18

The Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats (4-4) took on Fellowship Christian last Friday and lost 43-18.

The Bobcats fell behind 22-0 in the first quarter and had a hard time catching back up. Touchdowns for Mercy were scored by Dominique McDermott (131 yards rushing on 13 carries, 40 yards receiving, seven total tackles), William Pearl (14 of 18 passing, 153 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 40 yards rushing on 14 carries, 1 TD, seven total tackles) and David Goemare (3 catches for 64 yards, 1 TD).

Landmark tops ELCA, 35-30

Last Friday the Landmark War Eagles went on the road and defeated the Eagles Landing Christian Academy Chargers in an important region game by the score of 35-30.

Vote in Tyrone on Tuesday could be memorable

If the talk around town is any indication, next Tuesday could well be a day to remember. Regardless of the outcome, the Nov. 6 election for mayor and two council seats has generated as much activity as any election in Tyrone’s memorable history. In all, seven candidates are running for three positions, including mayor and two town council posts.

Campaign financial disclosures are a part of the process candidates are required to submit in the run up to an election. The most recent of the reporting periods for the upcoming election had a Oct. 25 deadline for candidates to document contributions and expenses relating to their campaigns. Those reports are listed below. All contributions received and expenditures made after Oct. 25 will be due in a final report to be submitted by candidates Dec. 31.

South Fulton election 07 preview

The time for south Fulton residents to make their decisions on who will represent them for the next four years is almost here. And with a total of 40 people qualifying in the four cities, the field of candidates for the Nov. 6 election will include perhaps the largest list of candidates in memorable history.

The second major shopping complex on South Fulton Parkway and the first inside Union City city limits was approved Oct. 29 by Union City Planning Commission. The preliminary plat for South Fulton Crossing shows a 450,000 square-foot commercial center anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Bear Creek becomes NASA school

During the partnership, Bear Creek will work with NASA personnel and other partners to develop and implement programs in mathematics, science and technology education. Bear Creek Middle School will be recognized at the Fulton County Board of Education October meeting.
