It's not how much you make, it's what you do with it that counts.

I heard we have 106 foreclosures going to the courthouse steps this week. Is this true? It's a shame.

Oh, Gee.

I guess when I move to another county the Fayette average will come UP a bit. I seem to be dragging it down. Eye-wink

Just be glad that you when you move to another county it's not the Fayette average IQ that will go up!

The median income is the point where half the households in the county make more, and the other half makes less. It's the midpoint. Whether Evander Holyfield has a good year or not does not matter when you're looking at median household income. (It would, if you looked at the average.)

It would be interesting to see corresponding county statistics on median household expenditures, because what you get to keep can in the end be more important than what you take in. These various statistics must be taken with a grain of salt. Where do these guys get their figures?

And not to mention, houses START at $300,000. This will get you 3 bedroom/ 1bath and 12,000 sq ft of living space. Now, lets not alk about traffic because Atlanta's rush hour looks like a cake walk compaired to DC. Has anyone here ever "slugged"?

and this means what?
I know many in this county that are trying to keep up with the Joneses and are up to their eyeballs in debt!
Do you know what the cost of living is in Fairfax? $100,318 barely makes it there.

same w/ Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Sussex conties in Jersey. Not to mention Essex, Bergen, Monmouth and Ocean. It's obscene, but it sure is nice.

the author describes the difference between a high income earner that is Balance Sheet Wealthy and the one's that are Income Statement Affluent. It's not what you make on the income statement, but it's what you've accumulated on the balance sheet. The problem with so many folks in our area is they have very little to show on the balance sheet at the end of the day.

The author goes on further to describe these high income earners / spenders as "Big Hat...No Cattle". Do you suppose that's an accurate theory in lieu of the housing market in our area?

Actually, these richest county numbers mean little in most cases.
They are based on income and have nothing to do with the bank account two days before payday.
Also, this sort of comparison needs to be done on a bell curve anyway in order to throw out the county Bill Gates, and Rupert Murdock might live in, and also all of the Walmart part timers!
You know that you can drown in water that "averages" 1/4 inch deep?
What it does indicate, as in the case of Fayette, is that if you wish to live where such people live, then this is it!

Git, what a fantastic point you make. There seem to be many big hats and not enough cattle in this county. I have noticed a lot of "old money" in this county. Mom and dads money passed down to their kids, who are working in mom and dads business, living on the 5, 10 or 15 acres mom and dad gave them. And to make it worse, many have a "high-consumption lifestyle" that definitively affects their balance sheet.
Save, save, save and live within your means I say.

If you get the opportunity read 'The Millionaire Next Door' and the next one the author published which is called 'The Millionaire Mind'. I read them about 5 years ago. Mrs. Git and I were about to purchase a big ole house in Whitewater. While reading the Millionaire Next Door over the Christmas break, I broke the news to my bride that we would not be purchasing that house. We remained where we are and we chuckle at all of the houses that are on the market in there.

The Millionaire Next Door is a book for those who are way beyond needing the help of Clark Howard and Dave Ramsey. It should be required reading for all High School Grads. If they can just grasp the concept....

I actually bought 20 copies and passed them out to some young people that were getting started and to all of my employees. Few grasped the concepts and it shows. Those that did have been rewarded.

There were no magical formulas. Just plain common sense.

The millionaire next door is a great read. I did not get into "the millionaire mind" as much, did you read that book as well, Git?

Now don't be surprised if I tap you on the shoulder somewhere in public and give you a big ole HOWDY. Smiling

Yes, I read them both. The Millionaire Mind was not quite as good a read as The Millionaire Next Door. But, I still learned alot out of it.

The Millionaire Mind is a must read. It's concepts and the understanding of who the "real millionaires' are quite enlightening. Since I read that book, I look at the people in Whitewater and Highgrove in a whole new light. I've come to understand that these people are income affluent but balance sheet broke. Again...Big Hat No Cattle.

It is amazing as to who the "real" millionaires are in our country.

Xaymaca...do you remember the answser to this question? What is the number one automobile driven by millionaires in this country?
