Both PTC bond questions defeated Political novice Don Haddix overwhelmed a sitting councilman and a newcomer to win the Peachtree City Post 1 council race without a runoff. He easily outpaced Councilman Mike Harman -- appointed to the council in August -- and Thomas O'Toole to win outright with 57 percent of the vote. Mike King and Doug Sturbaum will face each other in a runoff for PTC Post 2 in early December. The two finished with 34 percent and 31 percent of the vote, respectively. Also-rans were Dar Thompson and Mark Hollums. A citizens' uprising in Tyrone installed three new faces on the Town Council. Don Rehwaldt beat Councilman Mike Smola 2-to-1 to win the hotly contested mayor's race. Tracey Young outpaced Ken Matthews 60 percent to 40 percent to win Tyrone Post 1. Eric Dial tallied a 47 percent showing in a three-way race for Tyrone Post 2, but the Tyrone charter gives him the win without a runoff over Gordon Shenkle and Jesse Nasianceno. An extremely tight race developed in Fayetteville with former Councilman Al Hovey-King edging newcomer Mickey Edwards by six votes, 297 to 291. Voters in PTC overwhelmingly nixed a $4 million plan to astroturf some youth football fields. And they voted down a plan to expand the city's senior center 58 percent to 42 percent.
