Four teenagers were arrested early Tuesday morning after a sheriff’s deputy spotted them trying to set off an explosion at the old Kiwanis Fairgrounds, police said.

Following a brief manhunt early this afternoon, Peachtree City police arrested a burglary suspect who ran on foot after he was approached by a police officer on Crosstown Road near Ga. Highway 74.

Drug agents are finding red ribbons and other occult religious symbols at the increasing number of pot-growing houses busted over the past several days. The count is up to 23 marijuana “grow houses” and the numbers just keep on coming.

The latest suspect arrested in an ongoing Internet sting targeting those who sexually prey on children is different from the 18 other men previously arrested by the Peachtree City Police Department, said Police Chief James Murray.

Peachtree City’s latest transportation plan, unveiled Thursday night, is already significantly outdated because it does not include figures from the most significant road improvement project in the past year. Development plans for The Shoppes at Highway 54 West announced Feb. 13 at Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission work session would bring 55,000 square feet of retail and office space to the southeast corner of Grady Avenue and Ga. Highway 54. The proposal will be up for consideration at the Feb. 27 regular session.

One of Peachtree City’s most successful companies has once again been acquired by an even bigger corporation.

Stamford, Ct.-based Cenveo, Inc. announced that it acquired Printegra Corporation. In a press release, the company said the acquisition also includes Printegra divisions: National Imprint Corporation and Synergy Label.

Peachtree City’s Michael Posey has thrown his hat in the ring to become chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party. Posey has lived in Fayette County for seven years and for the last three years has served on the executive board of the Republican Party.

An unemployed Snellville man has been arrested by the Peachtree City Police Department for trying to arrange a sexual act via the Internet with a girl he thought was 13 years old.

Last year ended with the issues of annexation of unincorporated land in south Fulton decided. But then again, maybe not. Bills introduced last week in the Georgia House by 66th District Rep. Virgil Fludd, 64th District Rep. Roger Bruce and Rep. 65th District Sharon Beasely-Teague are potentially calling some of those annexations into question.

Fairburn City Council approved the renewal of the lease for courthouse to the Old Campbell County Historical Society at the Feb. 12 meeting. Custodians of the courthouse for 36 years by agreement with Fulton County and, more recently, by Fairburn, concerns were raised in November over the appropriateness of leasing to the historical society due to issues such as the presence of the Confederate flag and other Confederate memorabilia in the old courthouse.

Organizers called the event “The Keys to Your New City.” Members of South Fulton Concerned Citizens (SFCC) Feb. 12 used the backdrop of Cliftondale Community Center as the most recent venue to promote the June 19 vote to officially form the new city of South Fulton.

Next week’s Planning Commission meeting in Tyrone could be contentious as a neighborhood group is rallying support against a proposed development.

It seems that South Fulton County is always on the radar screen these days. This week was no exception, when Gov. Sonny Perdue named Chattahoochee Hills resident Steve Nygren to the board of Georgia Dept. of Community Affairs.

The Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy has announced its new leadership for 2007. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization working to create and implement innovative land use and conservation programs that protect the environment, enhance the quality of life, and promote sustainable economic growth.

After nearly six years of work by its staff, the town of Tyrone will finally get to have one its dangerous railroad crossings fixed.

The McIntosh Chiefs boys basketball team has qualified for the state tournament for the first time in the school’s history. The Chiefs beat the Creekside Seminoles 54-47 on Wednesday night, less than two weeks removed from a 58 point loss to Creekside. Coach Jason Eisele credited Robert Chubb (55) with playing a huge game on defense in the win. McIntosh will now take on their longtime rivals, the Fayette County Tigers, today at 5:30 p.m., for a trip to the region championship game. Lohr led department through change, improvements since 2000

Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr has announced that he will retire as of April 2.

Lohr notified his staff of his intentions in a memo to the entire department. He will also turn 60 in April, he noted.

“It’s time for me to do something else,” Lohr said in an interview this week with The Citizen. “... It’s time to go smell those roses."
