The Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy has announced its new leadership for 2007. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization working to create and implement innovative land use and conservation programs that protect the environment, enhance the quality of life, and promote sustainable economic growth.
The recently elected officers for 2007 are: James H. Kaminer, Jr., partner at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, who will serve as chairman of the Conservancy board; Thomas K. Farmer, Director, Government Relations for The Nature Conservancy, who will serve as vice chairman; Patrick N. Corleto, Vice President and Southeast Director, CH2M Hill, who will serve as treasurer; and Robert D. Mowrey, Partner, Alston & Bird, who will serve as secretary.

Joining these officers on the board are the following incumbent Board of Directors: Ross King, Deputy Director of The Association County Commissioners of Georgia; Joseph G. Martin, Jr., President of Civitas, Inc.; Dr. Becky Champion, former Executive Director of Oxford Meadows Environmental Learning Center, Columbus State University; Stephan D. Nygren (ex-officio), Serenbe Development; and Charlotte Gillis (ex-officio), Landscape Architect for National Park Service. The Conservancy Board of Directors, consisting totally of volunteers, represents an impressive collection of experience and knowledge in land conservation. The Conservancy has also recently appointed Christine McCauley as their new executive director.

“We are very excited about what the Conservancy has accomplished, particularly with the recent establishment of a Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) bank and two of the first four TDR transactions ever to occur in Georgia,” said Kaminer. “We look forward to fulfilling our mission of conservation coupling sustainable development with greenspace and continuing to expand our TDR program.”

“I am looking forward to working with this very accomplished board in continuing the conservation effort in the Hill Country,” McCauley added. ”This model in which conservation and development benefit from each other is truly innovative. I'm thrilled to be a part of this wonderful endeavor.”

Chattahoochee Hill Country is the only rural area in Georgia with a TDR program designed to facilitate the preservation of the historic rural landscape while promoting the sustainable development of livable communities.
