Some pleaded their case, but in the end it did no good. The Fayetteville City Council was sympathetic, but that emotion did not stop them from imposing fines, permit revocations and warnings for businesses selling alcohol to those under-age or selling alcohol without a permit.

Man gets 20 years for assault

A north Fayette man was convicted Tuesday of shooting his longtime girlfriend at their home in June.

A jury found Christopher Q. McDaniel, 29, of 350 Carriage Drive, guilty of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell.

It is a two-fold problem: the septic system and compliance standards. Recent problems with the septic system at the fire station in Tyrone and the station’s inadequate size for housing increasing numbers of firefighters initially led to a consideration of relocating the station’s septic system to Shamrock Park. But recent soil tests at the park showed that such a move is not possible, leaving the county with the prospect of significantly diminishing on-site water usage or moving up the date to relocate the facility.

Tyrone festival a success despite bad weather

Overnight rain and the threat of tornadoes may have dampened attendance last week at Tyrone’s combination Easter Egg Hunt/Dog Contest/Taste of Tyrone/St. Patrick’s Day festivities, but nothing could stop the fun experienced by the nearly 250 who made their way March 15 to Shamrock Park and Triangle Park.

Man acquitted of stalking charge

A Fayette County jury found a Clayton County man not guilty Thursday of aggravated stalking.

Birane Mbengue was accused of threatening the grandmother of his baby after the woman was awarded temporary custody of the child following a juvenile court hearing in January 2007.

The company wanted a 142 square foot sign on the wall of its building, far above the current 30 square foot limit. But the request was shot down unanimously as several council members said they worried it would set a precedent that would damage the city’s sign ordinance.
