It’s a whole new day in downtown SenoiaThu, 03/20/2008 - 3:20pm

Residents driving through downtown Senoia Monday night knew something was different as every parking space on the city’s Main Street was occupied. The City Council was meeting, but the real crowd was just down the block at the opening of Maguire’s Irish Pub. Hundreds walked down the stairs of Senoia’s newest building on Main Street to celebrate St. Patrick’s day and also get a gander at the city’s newest restaurant. Maguires is the second restaurant to open in downtown Senoia, joining the Redneck Gourmet which is located one floor above the festive Irish pub. The opening of the restaurants has created a buzz in the town, along with the opening of new shops in the building that formerly housed Hutchinson’s Hardware. But the new businesses are only the beginning in what can only be described as a massive makeover of the city’s downtown business district. During Monday night’s City council meeting, the council signed off on a preliminary plat for another development on Main Street. Historic Development Ventures representative Scott Tigchelaar explained his group had just completed the purchase of a building on Main Street that was housing a church. the building sits next to a vacant lot, and he explained the company needed the additional property to make the lot wide enough for a theater. Tigchelaar plans to gave retail fronting Main Street with an old fashioned movie theater behind it. On the company’s website, historicsenoia.com, the theatre would be a single-screen theatre with seating for up to 200. The theatre would also be available for meetings and events. login to post comments |
