The Fayetteville Police Department has been re-accredited on a national basis by the Commission for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies.

CALEA also named FPD a “flagship agency,” an acknowledgment of the department’s achievement and expertise. It also means that FPD will be used as an example to assist other agencies in the national accreditation process.

To achieve accreditation, law enforcement agencies must meet several hundred guidelines covering all forms of police work. They must also undergo an on-site inspection from CALEA assessors and have pages upon pages of records reviewed by the assessment team.

CALEA’s accreditation standards cover the following areas of law enforcement: role, responsibilities, and relationships with other agencies; organization, management and administration; personnel structure; personnel process; operations; operational support; traffic operations; prisoner and court-related activities; and auxiliary and technical services.

The flagship honor was bestowed on Fayetteville at a banquet March 15 at the Atlanta Hilton. The department was first accredited by CALEA in 2002.

The Peachtree City Police Department earlier this year was also awarded its reaccreditation by CALEA.
