PTC sacks supersize sign for credit unionThu, 03/20/2008 - 7:40pm

A request to supersize the sign for Delta Community Credit Union was denied by the Peachtree City Council tonight. The company wanted a 142 square foot sign on the wall of its building, far above the current 30 square foot limit. But the request was shot down unanimously as several council members said they worried it would set a precedent that would damage the city’s sign ordinance. Delta Community representatives said the size was necessary to make sure it’s seen from Ga. Highway 54, and also because of the new logo the company has adopted. City Planner David Rast said he thought the company could adopt its new logo and still meet the 30 square foot limit. Rast recommended against the variance, noting that over the years the city has kept the size limit whether the building is one, two or three stories tall. Mayor Harold Logsdon said though he was proud to have the company in Peachtree City, “... But our sign ordinance is pretty special to Peachtree City and I can’t compromise that in my mind. If we start giving on our sign ordinance, we just really put the whole thing at risk.” Council voted unanimously to deny the request. The company also has two monument signs on the ground, one adjacent to Hwy. 74 and the other on Wisdom Road, Rast said. login to post comments |
