Sheriff:
Marshals making unlawful arrests
County
marshals making traffic arrests are acting outside the scope of their
legal authority and may be placing the county in jeopardy of lawsuits,
Fayette County Sheriff Randall Johnson wrote to the Fayette County Commission
Thursday.

staffer earns master's degree
Rebecca Watts, reference
specialist at the Peachtree City Library, received her master's degree
in information science from Florida State University Aug. 2. She is
the third staff member at the Peachtree City Library to hold a master's
degree accredited by the American Library Association. As such, Watts
is now eligible to apply for Georgia State Librarian certification.

Village rape suspect related to victim, police say
A Peachtree City
man has been arrested for raping a woman at the Harmony Village Apartments
Wednesday morning and then beating her and attempting to rape her a
second time later in the afternoon, police said.

The
Peachtree City Running Club is accepting applications for the 22nd running
of the Peachtree City Classic road race, scheduled for Saturday, Oct.
18. The event actually consists of three separate races run on three

The
Clayton College & State University men's soccer team opened its
exhibition season with 7-1 victory Sunday over the Lightning Soccer
Club U-18 squad at Laker Field.
Smith
wins two golds at State Games of America
Haley
Smith, a 9-year-old Peachtree City Flash track athlete from Tyrone,
represented Georgia in the 2003 State Games of America in Connecticut.
She brought home two gold medals, competing against 9- and 10-year-olds
in the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run, taking an early lead and finishing
strong in both races.

It's
my job not to keep my mouth shut

It continues to
amaze me how many people think that ministers have an obligation to
keep their mouths shut, keep their opinions to themselves, and be, simply,
"nice guys." Usually, when someone disagrees with me, over
an opinion stated in this column, for example, they will say something
like, "I can't believe that a 'man of the cloth' would say such
a thing."
The
bus doesn't stop here anymore, but there are other options
