Smith wins two golds at State Games of America

Haley Smith, a 9-year-old Peachtree City Flash track athlete from Tyrone, represented Georgia in the 2003 State Games of America in Connecticut. She brought home two gold medals, competing against 9- and 10-year-olds in the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run, taking an early lead and finishing strong in both races.

Haley, who struggles with asthma, trained intensively with Sue Bozgoz and Jimmy Roberts.

The State Games are a national track and field competition involving 42 states and held every two years. Georgia athletes must qualify by taking first place in their event at the Georgia Games.
