Suspect fights with officers after tip leads to whereabouts

A man fought two Peachtree City police officers who responded to a residence at Harmony Village Thursday morning on a tip there was a warrant for his arrest.

Brian Redden, 23, was arrested Thursday morning at the apartment complex after the brief struggle with the officers. Although Redden was "very combative," neither of the officers involved were injured, said police chief James Murray.

Peachtree City police had a warrant out on Redden for failure to appear in court, and a new charge of resisting arrest has been added, police said. Redden also faces one count of criminal damage to property from the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Police were tipped off to Redden's presence at the apartment complex by a resident who wanted him out of her home, Murray said. Officers found Redden hiding in a closet before the struggle began, Murray said.

Both officers' personal safety tones were activated, causing a rush of officers to the location because of the potential danger during the struggle, Murray said. Those tones are emitted over the radio by a button officers can push when they need assistance in a hurry, police said.
