New library could come sooner

East Coweta residents could be checking out books at a new library sooner than originally planned.

County Administrator Theron Gay said the Coweta County Commission is considering a proposal to borrow more than $6 million to build the library on Lower Fayetteville Road and a new state patrol post. County residents approved a Special Purpose Local Option Sales tax last year to pay for the projects, but Gay said usually you don't have enough money to build the projects until the fourth year.

"With the interest rates low, now is a really good time to borrow money," Gay said.

If the county moves forward with borrowing the money, Gay said residents could see the construction start on the library next year, and finish in 2005.
