ECHS band fundraiser tomorrow
Through the generosity of Paul McKnight, Jr., and his friends and associates, better known as the "Liars Club," the East Coweta Band Booster Club will hold its annual barbecue fundraiser tomorrow from 11 a.m.3 p.m. at the East Coweta High School Athletic Complex, which is named in honor of McKnight. McKnight was elected to the Coweta County Board of Education in 1958 and served as chairman for 31 years. During that time he worked to consolidate the Coweta County and Newnan City boards of education into the board's current format and made countless accomplishments during his tenure that has helped shape the future of our county and school system. McKnight was instrumental in finding the land on which the current East Coweta High school was constructed. The school was relocated from the previous complex that now houses East Coweta Middle School on Ga. Highway 16. McKnight donates his services and barbecue expertise to help make this annual event a county favorite. As an honorary member of the marching band, he encourages one and all to come out and enjoy a barbecue plate that is a great value and benefits a worthy cause. The East Coweta Band Boosters, Inc., was incorporated June 20, 2001, as a charitable, nonprofit organization to promote music education at East Coweta High School and to provide an extracurricular marching band program to develop discipline and music appreciation to all students. Tickets are $6 for adult plates and $3 for a child's portion. You may obtain tickets from any marching program student. For more information or to participate, call Sam Harkness at 770-254-1588. The band wishes to express their gratitude to McKnight and all area business and individuals who help to make this event a success.
