Brenau University to offer classes at new Fairburn campus

There will soon another option for college students living in Fayette County. Brenau University announced last week that it will open its Fairburn campus this summer. To be called South Atlanta/Fairburn, the new Brenau campus will open in the 2009-10 academic year on Aug. 28. Brenau will join Georgia Military College (GMC) at the Fairburn campus. GMC opened the new site in 2008, and approximately 25 percent of GMC’s students live in Fayette County.

All lanes of Hwy. 54 reopen after gas leak

All four lanes of Ga. Highway 54 near Ebenezer Road and Brittany Way are open as of 3:30 p.m, officials reported. The road had been closed for over four hours Friday, May 15 while emergency crews worked on repairing a major gas line break in the area.

Astin sentenced to 10 years

Carrollton physician Dr. Phil Astin III was sentenced in Newnan May 12 by U.S. District Judge Jack T. Kemp to serve 10 years in federal prison for his January conviction on 175 counts of illegally dispensing prescription drugs from 2002 until his arrest in 2007. Astin was the personal physician for wrestler and Fayette County resident Chris Benoit.
