Hit and run suspect can't out-swim cops

A woman tried to swim away from police early this afternoon as they tried to arrest her for a hit and run case in Fayetteville.

But three sheriff's detectives ultimately jumped into the lake to place the woman under arrest even as she continued to try and evade them in the water, officials said.

The woman ditched her car and ran into a wooded area off Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard and Ga. Highway 92 after a Fayetteville officer tried to stop her early this afternoon, said Maj. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

Fayetteville police set up a perimeter to hem the suspect in as sheriff's helicopter Hawk 1 helped try to locate the suspect. Then a K-9 tracking team came in to help with the search.

The suspect was later spotted trying to swim away from officers in a lake located in the wooded area, Woodie said. As detectives Bryan Lee, Brent Rowan and Anthony Rhodes entered the lake, the suspect tried to swim away from them also, he added.

But the trio managed to bring the suspect from the lake, put on the handcuffs and send her on the way to the Fayette County Jail, Woodie said.

Someone should have been there recording this. It sounds like a scene from My Name is Earl.

JMartinez - what a wonderful idea! I agree with you. I could not have written a better post. You are not only smart but funny.

I think that if someone runs from the police they should be allowed to beat the hell out of them for the same length of time that they ran and/or evaded police.

You could install a meter like a cab uses. Once they light 'em up, the copper flips on the meter. No run- no problem. If they run or evade by driving like an idiot the meter runs. Once captured, they succumb to the good old wood shampoo technique for the amount of time the meter ran.

Yea, a few videos of those and a medal for whipping that butt might get the word out that driving like an idiot and endangering the lives of everyone in the way, or hiding in the bushes and tying up all those man-hours and resources has a price tag.... a butt whipping.

Yea, a meter would be great. We could call it a beater meter. Eye-wink

JeffC would jump right in and say we are "above that" as a country. In his world it is more important to have "principles" than it is to save lives, prevent crime, punish criminals.

We should be above that too.

Some people have principles that are not inside quotation marks.

Some people don't.

I do have to agree. When the boys have do dive in the lake to chase someone down, someone deserves a ass kick'in!

Signing on with you losers isn't a good way to survive.

You need to embrace the coming dictatorship or become one of it's first victims.

I actually get paid to find 'people like you' and report them.

I believe that the officers are responsible for the care of their uniforms. If so, the cost of new uniforms should be added to the suspects fine. Cheaper to shove her head underwater than put her in the "system."

Hey if I'm a cop and I have to pay for my own uniform, I'm not going in after her. I'll just taz her from the banks. *LOL*
