Fayette County and Fayetteville firefighters will be conducting a boot drive to raise money for the south metro chapter of the American Red Cross Saturday night during a free concert at The Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville.

Firefighters will solicit donations on behalf of the 2009 American Red Cross South Metro Heroes Campaign, an annual event to help raise money for the local Red Cross. The south metro chapter is the one which assists local residents displaced by fire or disaster, and local officials say the Red Cross plays a key role in providing those services.

The Red Cross also is prepared to host large-scale shelters and conducted such a drill earlier this year at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville.

Saturday’s concert features the Army Ground Forces Band, which provided world-class music in support of the U.S. Army Forces Command headquartered at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta.

The Heroes campaign involves community members stepping forward to raise money to support Red Cross services in Fayette, Henry, Clayton and Butts counties.
