Woman dies in car crash

An Arizona woman died Friday evening in a motor vehicle crash on Ga. Highway 314 near Kenwood Road, police said.

Helen Mumma, 86, of Youngstown, Ariz. was the passenger in a vehicle that was struck when the driver turned into the path of another vehicle, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

PTC to decide: Annex north for 700 senior homes?

A developer of subdivisions aimed at the “active adult” lifestyle has set its sights on Peachtree City’s unofficial West Village, officials said Monday. Mayor Harold Logsdon says he favors that annexation plus all the rest of the “West Village” now outside the city limits.

Senoia seeks sewer from PTC again

Promise Place asks for help

In its years of service to residents throughout Fayette County, Promise Place has made a difference in the lives of victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Continuing that expanding mission led Promise Place Director Sonja Strickland to ask Fayetteville City Council March 2 for funding assistance when council members begin planning expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year. Though no promises for funding were made, council members seemed receptive to the request.

Flu is on the upswing

An increase in flu activity during the past two weeks is normal for this time of year according to officials with the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health. After a relatively calm start to the 2005-2006 flu season, health officials say an increase in reports of influenza-like illness and positive lab reports in several regions indicate more typical widespread flu activity.

McIntosh wins region

The McIntosh High School Science Olympiad team won first place overall with gold medals in five events in the Georgia Science Olympiad regional competition at Macon State College. The team won a total of 34 medals and earned a position in the state competition March 25 at Emory University.
