Are you worried about how much worse local and regional traffic is going to become as time goes by?

If so, you should attend a meeting hosted by the Atlanta Regional Commission Thursday, March 9, to inform citizens how to help plan improvements in land use, traffic, transit and other mobility challenges. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Library.

The meeting, part of a special transportation study of six counties south of Atlanta, including Fayette County, is hosted by the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The Southern Regional Accessibility Study will consider all modes of transportation, including roads, transit, bike and pedestrian facilities. The study’s results will aid policy makers in selecting transportation projects and will be critical in updating the ARC’s 2030 regional development and regional transportation plans.

The study involves analysis of local and county adopted and proposed land use and transportation plans to develop a vision and goals for the entire region. The region includes south Fulton, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding and Henry counties in addition to their municipalities and the Chattahoochee-Flint and McIntosh Trail regional development areas.

The study is due to conclude March 2007.

According to the ARC, much of the growth in the region will come to the south metro area. By 2030, the Atlanta region is expected to reach 6 million people.
