McIntosh wins region

The McIntosh High School Science Olympiad team won first place overall with gold medals in five events in the Georgia Science Olympiad regional competition at Macon State College. The team won a total of 34 medals and earned a position in the state competition March 25 at Emory University.
The Science Olympiad team consists of 15 students competing in 23 events. Winning first in their categories were: Michael Forsyth and Danny Christ, Robot Ramble; Patrick McAllister and Brian Forsyth, Towers; Joseph Morris and Brian Forsyth, Don’t Bug Me; McAllister and Kevin Kim, Wright Stuff, and McAllister and Mary Roth, Storm the Castle.
Second-place medalists were: Michael Forsyth and Josh DeVane, Circuit Lab; Jonathan Hung and DeVane, Scrambler; and Michael Forsyth and Kyle Koonce, Astronomy. Ashleigh Murphy and Mary Roth also won a bronze medal for Ecology. Other team members included Karen Christ, Charles He, Han and Michael Qin.
McIntosh also fielded a second team of Christopher Molstad, Julian Prokay and Jason Ramey, who also received medals for several of their events.
This year’s regional and state competitions lead up to the national event in May at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. McIntosh last qualified for a National Science Olympiad in 2002 at Wilmington, Del.
Coaching this year’s team are McIntosh science teachers Mike DeLisle and Stephanie Sisk, with other teachers and volunteer parents coaching the individual events.
“This is a talented team of students with the potential to qualify for national competition,” said DeLisle. “We appreciate the support we have received from the administration, the families and the business community.”
