GROW wildlife hospital in Chatt HillsIt is a first for southwest metro Atlanta. It is a first for Georgia. The move is underway to establish the state’s first wildlife hospital and clinical research center in the new city of Chattahoochee Hill Country. The non-profit Georgia Rehabilitation of Wildlife Center (GROW) is raising $3.5 million construct the 11,000 square-foot facility on the grounds of Cochran Mill Nature Preserve in Chatt Hills. Land for the new facility is being donated by Minerva Properties, developer of Friendship Village, a Chatt Hills community in the planning stages in south Fulton County that will feature more than 60 percent greenspace. Coweta solicitor wants answers on business licensesCoweta County Solicitor Robert Stokely paid a visit to Tyrone Thursday night to question the town’s procedures on issuing occupational tax certificates. Stokely appeared as a private resident and said he was acting as a business associate in the Tyrone Tire business. Stokely said the business has tried to rent out a bay, but has been repeatedly turned down by the town, or run into delays. Schools Combine Forces for Common GoalMore than 200 racers, organizers and spectators showed up for the first annual Great Pumpkin Race, a joint effort organized by Flat Rock Middle School and Sandy Creek High School, held recently on the cross country course at Sandy Creek. Teachers, administrators, students and parents from the sister schools joined forces in an effort to raise money for technology services at both schools. As a result, more than $2000 was raised by the 1-mile walk and 5k walk/run that took place on Saturday, October 13. For months, Lawson has been working his way through Tyrone’s government to try and get a sign for his car detailing business. Lawson’s business, Reflections Hand Car Wash and Detailing, is located on Ga. Highway 74, next to Advance Auto Parts. Since his business does not have a curb cut on the busy state highway, Lawson was unable to place a sign in the town’s 60 ft. buffer that runs the length of the highway. Old National bank robbery leaves one suspect deadAn Oct. 17 bank robbery at the Bank of America branch at Ga. Highway 138 and Old National Highway left one robber dead at the scene and Fulton County Police searching for two others in a get-away vehicle. Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in the search for the two suspects. Photo/John Munford. 10,000 jobs could be headed to the southsideIt is being billed as the first of its kind in the world. And it is coming to south Fulton County. A sweeping project sponsored by the Africa Heritage Foundation, Inc. will feature a variety of economic, educational and nation-specific venues across portions south Fulton. The five-year project beginning in fall 2009 will contain multiple sites and venues constructed at a cost of $4-10 billion and provide a minimum of 10,000 jobs.
