Another auto parts store may be on the horizon for Tyrone. The Planning Commission Oct. 25 voted 2-1 to recommend a reduced setback for the proposed O’Reilly Auto Parts store on Tyrone Road east of Ga. Highway 74. The 1.1-acre site is located at 9920 Tyrone Road, adjacent to the BP station located at the southeast corner at Hwy. 74. O’Reilly representative Brad Beckman told commissioners the company wanted to reduce the setback on the east side of the property from 50 feet to 20 feet due to the unique triangular shape of the lot and so the building could be properly positioned on the property. Town consultant Megan Will agreed and recommended approval, adding that the variance would have little impact on surrounding properties. Commissioners received assurances that O’Reilly would make the required improvements to asphalt the currently unpaved portion of Handley Road abutted by the site. During the discussion, Commissioner Kevin Gooding said he was attempting to decide how the building would fit on the property and, in the end, voted against the variance. Commissioners David Nebergall and Kathy Winton voted in favor of the request. Nebergall saying he was willing to support the variance, but would not be happy if what he saw on the submitted drawings came back further in the process as a proposed site plan. In her recommendation, Will also recommended that the dealer delivery door proposed for the west side of the 7,225 square-foot building, the side adjacent tot he BP property, be relocated to the rear of the structure. A typical tractor-trailer positioned at the door for delivery would encroach on the easement, she said. login to post comments |
