On November 8, 2007, Tyrone’s Lily Toering celebrated her first birthday thanks to the amazing care she received at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Lily was born with an arrhythmia called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW).

WPW is a syndrome associated with the ventricles of the heart. This extremely rare syndrome affects less than two percent of the population. She was on a heart monitor in 2006 when the monitor alarm went off and her parents rushed her to Chidren’s Healthcare. Medication stabilized Lily’s condition until March, 2007 when Lily went into cardiac arrest and was flown to the hospital. The hospital provided several levels of care, including using a defibrillator, pacemaker and finally, placed her on Extracoporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated heart and lung bypass machine. On April 17, 2007 Lily received a life-saving heart transplant at Children’s. Now, a healthy and beautiful young child, Lily and her family look forward to many more birthdays.

Lily and her family appeared Nov. 10 on Star 94 with on-air personalities including Cindy & Ray, Tom Sullivan and Nudge. The personalities announced the station’s fundraising total of $1,212,437 for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta during the fifth annual Star 94 Cares for Kids Radiothon.

The Star 94 Cares for Kids Radiothon has raised more than $ 5.8 million to date for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, which treats more than 228,000 sick and injured children annually.

Donations to the Star 94 Cares for Kids Radiothon still are being accepted at www.star94.com.
