Weekend I-85 update

The constrcution project along I-85 is winding down but closures will be in effect this weekend.

Portions of I-85 northbound and southbound will be closed until Monday at 5 a.m.

Palmetto gives go-ahead for skateboard park

What surfaced recently as a request to the City Council a few months ago by young residents of Palmetto culminated Monday with the approval to create a skateboard park at the end of Cobb Street.

Sewer talk on hold

The Tyrone Town Council met in a called meeting Wednesday to discuss the town’s sewer agreement with the City of Fairburn and agreed to temporarily put the issue on hold until new council members are seated in January.

Holiday traffic uneventful in Union City

The Georgia State Patrol reported that 19 people died on state roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday. That fatality count exceeded the prediction of 13 traffic-related deaths by 46 percent. But in Union City, the Click It or Ticket campaign paid off.

Nineteen year-old Riverdale resident Brian Talaiferro Smith is still being sought by Union City Police in the Nov. 11 shooting of five teenagers at Union Station Apartments on Flat Shoals Road.
