The centerpiece of a new veteran’s memorial in Peachtree City is getting the finishing touches on its new coat of paint.

The F-16 fighter jet will later be on display as part of the Veterans Memorial Park at Falcon Field.

It was a rare event July 21 as two long-serving family members stepped down from their positions of service to Coweta County. Assistant Administrator Roxie Clark retired after 35 years. She was joined by her husband Danny and by her father, Harold Hammond, who ended his service with the Coweta County Hospital Authority after more than 43 years.

Coweta gets request for sustainable organic farming

A proposal to add a zoning category to Coweta County’s Zoning and Development Ordinance allowing commercial farms to incorporate sustainable agriculture, organic gardening and agritourism on less than 20 acres got the go-ahead from commissioners last week. The Planning & Zoning Department will move forward with drafting the potential amendment as a conditional use in the Rural Conservation zoning district.

Coweta County Environmental Management, Creative Recycling Systems of Georgia (CRS), and the Coweta County School System have partnered to provide a location for county residents to recycle obsolete and used electronic devices. Trailers will be set up in the parking lot to collect the items delivered that day.

Coweta County commissioners last week agreed to consider allowing indoor shooting ranges to be established in the county. The Planning & Zoning Department will draft an ordinance amendment that, if approved, would be subject to a case-by-case examination by commissioners as a conditional use in industrial zoning districts.

Charter to petition state for Senoia school

Charter Schools USA is continuing its bid to establish a K-8 charter school in Senoia. The board of Georgia Charter Educational Foundation, Inc. (GCEF), on behalf of Charter Schools USA, voted late last week to submit a petition to the Georgia Charter Schools Commission as an alternative approach to having the school approved. The move follows a June 25 vote by Coweta County School Board to deny the petition.

Sam’s Club construction to begin at Fischer Crossing in August

Fischer Crossing developer Scott Seymour has maintained all along that 800,000 square feet of commercial space was destined for the intersection of Fischer Road and Ga. Highway 34 in east Coweta. A national recession and a Chapter 11 reorganization for the developer notwithstanding, it seems Seymour was right. The deal on the development’s first anchor store, a 136,000 square-foot Sam’s Club, closed Tuesday and construction work is expected to begin in mid-August.

Brother, sister and inmate arrested; inmate serving time for drug, theft charges

Peachtree City police today announced the arrests of three people, including a brother and sister, in connection with a shooting and armed robbery at the Ridgefield Condominiums in January that left one man shot in the abdomen.
