Newnan Police are asking for the public’s help in the apprehension of a man responsible for the armed robbery Tuesday morning of the Bank of Georgia branch at 471 US Highway 29 North in Newnan. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The man was described as a black male, approximately 5’5”-5’6” in height and weighing approximately 170-180 lbs., according to Newnan Public Information Officer Gina Snider. He was wearing a dark blue ski mask, dark colored gloves, a gray jacket, dark pants and boots. The pistol is described as a large, black semi-automatic pistol, Snider said. Snider said police consider the man to be armed and dangerous. She noted that no shots were fired and no one was physically injured during the robbery. An undetermined amount of money was taken in the robbery. A call from Bank of Georgia was received at the Coweta 911 Dispatch Center Tuesday morning at 9:35 a.m., Snider said, with the caller saying the bank had been robbed. Units from Newnan Police and Coweta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. Responding officers discovered that a black male armed with a semi-automatic pistol had entered the bank, pointed the gun at an employee, and demanded money, according to Snider. The robber gave the teller a plastic grocery store bag to put the money in. After receiving the money, the suspect fled the bank, and was seen running in the direction of the back of a convenience store, said Snider. From there, he fled across an open field, toward the driveway of a grocery store. It is believed he may have gotten into a waiting car at this point, she said. During a search of the area officers located some of the money apparently dropped by the suspect as he fled the bank. The trail of money ended at the grocery store driveway. A perimeter was set around the area, and a search by ground units, K-9 units and the Coweta County Sheriff Office helicopter did not locate the suspect. Anyone with information concerning this bank robbery is asked to contact Newnan Police Department at 770-254-2355. login to post comments |
