New school district lines proposedAn August resolution by Coweta County School Board designed to formulate a recommendation for new district lines for elementary and middle schools came to fruition Dec. 13 with the announcement that the work done by committees comprised of parents and school administrators had been completed. Deis wins Regents’ Teaching Excellence AwardDr. Michael H. Deis, associate professor of Management at Clayton State University, has been awarded the University System of Georgia Board of Regents’ Teaching Excellence Award for Regional and State Universities. The system-wide award recognizes faculty and departments for a strong commitment to teaching and service to students. Local artists’ work at Chateau ElanThe League of Fine Artists South (LOFAS) will exhibit in the gallery at The Winery -Chateau Élan in December. Five fine artists from Fayette, Henry and Coweta Counties will show selected juried art in oil, acrylic, ceramics, and mixed media. All of the art will be sold through the gift shop at the winery. Newnan High School student government officers Sarah Mitchell (treasurer), Greg Abt (president) and Miranda Hose (secretary) hold a few of the 23,858 cans and other food items brought in by Newnan High School students and teachers for this year’s Can-A-Thon. The high school ran a close competition with East Coweta High, which donated 18,837 to this year’s drive. In all, Coweta County schools provided over 102,000 cans to the drive’s total of 165,000 cans collected, not including the emergency can drive earlier in the year. Photo/Special.

Suspect arrested for assault, burglaryAn Atlanta man suspected in the violent assault of an elderly Fayette County man has been arrested. Arnold Bernard Wesley Jr., 23, of 3901 Campbellton Road is charged with armed robbery and kidnapping. Police said that he hit the victim in the back of the head and stole several firearms from the residence on Lady Carolyn Court after the attack Friday afternoon.
