Challenger gets 70 pct. of vote to oust incumbent Brown

Political newcomer Harold Logsdon manhandled incumbent Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown in his re-election bid, with Logsdon corralling 70 percent of the vote.

So, of course, the mood was more than jovial at the Logsdon campaign’s election party. Logsdon, who Brown accused of being beholden to special interests, said his supporters were just having a good time.

“They’re not here for political favors,” Logsdon said.

The shape of the City Council is due to change significantly, as voters elected newcomers to the mayor’s seat and two council posts. Consultant Stephen Boone and former attorney Cyndi Plunkett, now a stay-at-home mom, will join Logsdon and current council members Stuart Kourajian and Judi-ann Rutherford.

Logsdon has spoken with each of the council members and is looking forward to the chance to work with them. Their lack of experience won’t be a problem, he added.

“They are independent thinkers looking at what’s best for Peachtree City,” Logsdon said. “I’m committed to doing the right thing. I’ve said that over and over.”

Logsdon said he enjoyed the campaign, “even all the negative stuff,” but he’s looking forward to “repairing the damage and rebuilding our relationships.”

“We burned a lot of bridges in the county and even inside the city, and we’ve got to get that repaired,” Logsdon said.

The 6,041 residents who voted represent 29.03 percent of the entire pool of voters, and Logsdon said that was a pretty good turnout considering this was a runoff election.
