Local residents who normally use Interstate 85 to and from Atlanta may want to seek out an alternate route this weekend as construction work continues.

A series of lane closures will begin 9 a.m. today and last through 5 a.m. Monday.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the lanes that will be closed are:

• Two southbound right lanes on Interstate 85 between Ga. Highway 138 and Ga. Highway 74.

• Two left lanes on I-85 southbound between Flat Shoals Road and Hwy. 138.

• Two right lanes on I-85 southbound from Buffington Road to Flat Shoals Road.

• The far right lane on I-85 northbound, starting at Hwy. 138 and extending approximately one mile north.

The closures are part of the reconstruction of pavement sections on I-85. The construction project is nearing completion.
