Commission okays in-home food prep as home occupationIt was a measure adopted to bolster home-based food preparation businesses. The Coweta County Commission Jan. 5 voted unanimously to amend a portion of the Zoning & Development Ordinance to allow at-home food preparation for retail distribution or catering as a home occupation. PTC soldier back at home after helping train AfghansPeachtree City resident and Navy Reservist Corey Malmer returned home this month from a year’s tour of duty along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Malmer, an intelligence specialist, served on an embedded training team that helped train cohorts in the Afghan national army. Police toy drive surpasses expectationsChristmas is indeed the season of giving, and Peachtree City residents proved it again as they responded to the police department’s “Light Up the Night” toy drive. On top of that, they were able to help the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services help another 25 children at the last minute. Rockaway realignment underwayAccessing Ga. Highway 74 to the north from Rockaway Road has been a long standing vehicular nightmare. The beginning of the Hwy. 74 widening project is now under way and the first construction project will be the realignment of Rockaway so that it ties in to the traffic signal at Holly Grove Road. Weather permitting, that realignment work is expected to begin sometime in January. Fayette, Coweta add 500+ to employment ranksWhile the jobs picture certainly isn’t rosy, it improved slightly last month for Fayette and Coweta counties, according to statistics published this week by the Georgia Department of Labor. Cancer center wins state approvalIt was in early summer that representatives of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) met with government and business leaders from across Coweta County at Newnan City Hall to announce the city’s selection as the site of the company’s first hospital in the Southeastern United States. Rotary's "2009 Police Officer of the Year" HonoredThe Rotary Club of Peachtree City named Corporal Brian Boynton as the 2009 Police Officer of the Year Saturday evening at the PTC Police Department's Christmas banquet held at Flat Creek Country Club. The selection process for officer of the year is done by peer officers. Corporal Boynton has an excellent work ethic and is known throughout the department as the “Go to Guy” when an officer is needed for special detail. Boynton was born in East Point, Georgia. After spending some time in Texas, where he graduated from Kingwood High School, he returned to Georgia to live with his mother and sister.
