Newnan Police Department are still investigating the Feb. 4 hit-and-run on Newnan Crossing Bypass that claimed the life of 30-year-old Curtis Rodriguez Mitchell of Newnan. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has determined that Mitchell had “injuries consistent with that of being hit by a vehicle,” according to Chief Douglas L. “Buster” Meadows of the Newnan Police Department. Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs said the GBI believes the vehicle that struck Mitchell might be a dark colored, possibly gray or black, Toyota or Nissan. This is based on information from the crime lab upon its examination of the victim’s clothing and body. At this point, authorities have not developed any suspects. A passerby spotted the body in the southbound lanes of the bypass on Feb. 4 at approximately 4 a.m. and alerted police. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coweta County Coroner’s Office. Based on the GBI’s examination of the body, they believe Mitchell was found by the passerby moments after he was hit. Investigators have spoken with the victim’s sister, who told police that she last saw her brother alive at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 4. Police did not release details about Mitchell’s mental and physical state at that time. If anyone was in the area around Newnan Crossing Bypass on the time and date of this incident and saw a pedestrian walking, they need to contact the Newnan Police Department. Anyone with information can call the Newnan Police Department tip line at 770-254-2350 or the main number at 770-254-2355. login to post comments |
